Heavens no. Watching people yell at each other for a half an hour on end? I think a hernia would be more comfortable.

To be fair, it isn't just the Korean stuff. I loathe the soaps back home as well.

I watch them every now and then. They are good for listening practice and for observing situations that might or might not bring some insight into or about Korea in general. At least the chicks are mostly hot.

Lately I have been watching one soap that is on sunday at 10am. Its called "under one roof", and its hysterical. It is about people in a boarding house. 2 weeks ago the nephew was stealing money and beef and other stuff and givingit to his "girlfriends" grandmother (I think he is 11). Anyway, when it was discovered that he was the their (no one knew who the thief was) the father didnt even get upset and at the end the kid was sleeping and in his diary he drew a picture of him and the g.f. and his parents looked at him like he was so cute. Just proved how spoiled kids here are (in general) and how the parents coddle them. And no, O am not married to this show, when I have other things to do I do them, but if im home this is hysterical. And for some strange reason my understanding of korean has botten better cause of corse I can hear the korean and watch the sub titles. And laughter is good for us you know!

Yeah, they do provide some insight...they rely on a lot of melodrama and ridiculously contorted emotional hang ups. And then there is the shouting, arguments, etc. A bit like dating a Korean girl.

I'm still in the States but they show KBS (A miracle to watch since I don't have cable). I watched one soap opera last night. I am not sure what the name of it is but it takes place in (I guess) 12th century Korea or something to that effect. It was interesting. A lot of back stabbing and such.

Anyone know what the name of this show is?

If it's mostly about a cook for the royal family it's probably Daejangeum ( forgive the romanization) I watched one episode but it was wildly popular last winter.

It was tough to follow with my Korean but it was good watching.

I don't think the show I watched involved a cook. The episode I watched was about these brothers who dethroned an emperor and replaced him with another emperor. It seemed to revolve around whether the brothers could be accused of high treason. Unfortunately, the channel's reception isn't the best, so I can't read the title of show. It was interesting stuff...I guess I like that sort of thing...
