Don't you just love the car horns here?

Many of the "aftermarket add-on" horns are almost dangerous. I especially find the "doppler effect" horns to be annoying.

Today I was waiting for a bus near Hannam-Dong and a taxi cut in front of another taxi. The taxi that got cut off had a full-sized train horn and air compression system mounted under the hood. No joke -- that guy set that sucker off, and 3 lanes of cars veered out of the way!

Ha! Now that's funny! (I mean the cars veering...not the train horn).

I'll never forget the time some fool in Seoul blasted his car horn at some little kid on a bike in an alley,when he clearly had enough room to go around him (not too mention this was a small child who doesn't know any better).

I'm now teaching in Taiwan and, keeping in mind the way Koreans in Seoul used their car horns, I thought I would be relatively "horn-free" in my smallish Taiwan town.

Well--noooooooooo!

Most teachers here must drive scooters to get around and the car drivers absolutely MUST be in front of a scooter. I think it's about saving face or something.

Every once in a while I will be reminded of my "scooter-inferiority" when some idiot leans on his over powering coal-mine-lunch-break-horn right behind me. And oh yes, there is another lane you could use to get around me.

But--noooooooooooo!

But I love my scooter.

I've seen some pretty big horns on the hoods of Cadillacs in Texas. Talk about dangerous. Imagine getting gored by one of those things.

In Austin, a friend of mine going to UT actually saw a set of horns on a UT-colored Mazda RX-8.

What I am looking for, and maybe some of you can help me on this quest, is a few of those compressed air horns that people blare at stadium games. I want to carry one of those around and honk at any car crossing in front of me when it's my turn to cross the street.

Hey, they have no trouble honking at me if I don't make it across the street in time for the light to change.

Here's what ticks me off:

My school is on a one-way street, and people drive through it the wrong way on a regular basis. And a few times, I've even seen some of these jerks honk their goddamed horns at children who are walking down the street at the same time.

The first owner of my motorcycle made certain modifications to my motorcycle.

One of them was to add the mother of all motorcycle horns, imported direct from America.

It's like a bus horn; when I light that sucker up, the lanes in front of me part like the Red Sea before Moses, and that the sleeping adjuma in the Kia who can't decide on a land stops driving directly at me.

I have a hatred of car horns...always have always will.

In my little town of Taebaek I had some moron honking on his horn in front of my apartment building at about 11pm. He just kept honking away and after several minutes I did my best Popeye impression(i;s hads alls I cans stands I's cants stands no more ) Went down walked up to his car, popped the hood and disconnected his horn It was the first time I have ever seen a Korean turn white After I slammed the hood of his car down he took off at warp speed and was never seen or heard from again

I remember a big delivery truck tried to go down my tight alley at my first apartment in East Seoul. It was 5am, and a car had parked badly, and was blocking the road. The idiot decided to pull his semi-truck air horn for about 5 seconds. Within the next 10 seconds, about 5 screaming ajumma in pajammas came flying out of the houses surrounding the area.

And they were MAD!

They surrounded the truck, pointed fingers and were screaming at the guy. Others like me peeked out of the windows to watch. I was about to go down there and rip the guy a new one too, but the ajumma definately had the situation handled.

The fool in the truck had this "oh my gawd, I screwed up" look on his face, but still tried to act tough.

Ive heard more car horns honked here in Korea in one week than the whole of my life in America
