Anyone in Daejon? I leave on Saturday from NYC heading your way. (Why I am waiting this long to post a topic is indicative of my general approach to life.)

Give it to me straight. How is the city? All of my guidebooks describe it as pretty blah. Surely there must be something good about it (aside from the technology park I keep reading about).

It is also Wifey's home town. That should count for A LOT.

The new high-speed train stops there, which means you could always escape to somewhere else if you didn't find it to your liking....

Daejeon is a decdent city to live in, but there isn't much for tourists. There are a couple of good bars where the foreigners hang out, there's a costco and wal mart, along with the usual Korean suspects. It's a big transportation hub, so it's very easy to travel anywhere.

Isn't there also a big-ass zoo there?

One place to meet foreigners that is easy to find:

Get in a taxi and say, "Koong-dong ka ju say oh."

The driver will let you out in front of Lotteria.

On the left side of the building are some steps going down to the basement where Santa Claus is located.

Foreigners meet there (or used to). Mr. Ho speaks some English. He has a terrific collection of old albums. Yes, albums.

Yeah I'm not sure if that place is still there. J Rock is probably the most popular foreigner bar now.
