Here it is, the poll everyone's been waiting for. Cool As a break-off from "sober in Korea," why DON'T you drink?

I don't like the way alcohol makes me feel physically. Back home, I'll drink and smoke weed at the same time, because I find that the two substances consumed together take the unpleasant edge off of one another. But since I can imagine few things stupider than smoking weed in Korea, I generally refrain from drinking as well.

I have several reasons but I'll give just two here:

- It took me all my life to build this personality and I don't want to throw it away on a few drinks.

- I've yet to see a drunk person I'd like to emulate.

My body just can't take alcohol. I also hate puking. When I drink, I tend to get really sleepy.

It's good to have one or two and mix at the local for a breath of air from being mulling in my own. But beyond that I 'lose refinement' and subtley. And I'm barely hanging on to that as it is.

I know people who get hangovers after 4 drinks, I pace my liver well enough that I can't remember the last time I've had a hangover but if that ever started happening to me I'd stop in a minute. Another good reason would be the crap Korean beer, but then I just found some Stella Artois at a mini mart down the street from me so its way to early to stop yet Smile

thanks for the poll

I got the world's most intense, barabaric hangovers from korean beer. I understand that it is made with substitution for barely or corn using formaldyhyde or something like it. I know that soju is synthetic and quite caustic on your system.

I for one was "one's too many and a thousands not enough" type drinker.

What good does drinking serve? Other than the short term feeling of "clarity"...it does nothing. It damages your body and badly damages your wallet. No thanks. I prefer having my outdoor hobbies than imbibing in the halls of Prince Soju.

I don't drink because I'm Mormon...but I have been surprised how little there is here in the way of night life for people who don't drink.

Me too. It's a big phobia of mine. Thus, while I imbibe regularly, I am a paragon of moderation.

Can we get a ruling on this. I mean, this is an urban myth created by ESL teachers in Korea, right?

Someone told me that Thai Singha and Chang beers need to have the amphetamines taken out of them before export.(!) That would explain some of my behaviouron the last trip.

Hey! Teacher! Leave that Chang alone!
