my gym here has 2 huge a/c machines goin the whole day and its just like an ice cave inside.i really feel some days i will get pnemonia or something.its much better to sweat it up and use a towel or why dont they just put a huge fan inside the place.i have been in there in Jan. with -10c outside and all the windows r open.i really dont understand the korean logic behind the ice cold gym in the summer & winter! |

You're lucky! Most gyms I've been to in Korea have the exact opposite problem: the huge A/C sits unused in the corner collecting cobwebs and dust while everyone is forced to work out in stifling heat and humidity.
I have noticed, however, that in the winter most gyms indeed refrain from using the heat. This is simply to save money.
Don't know why they crank the A/C at your place. Yours is the exception, not the rule.
Hang in there, in 2-3 weeks the weather will become much cooler. |

Exactly. I count my blessings anywhere in Korea I find air conditioning used correctly, and that goes double in an environment where I'll be sweating more than usual anyway. |

Where is this magical place? I weighed myself today before working out in my sauna like gym and then again after.
I sweated off 1.5 kilos!?
When I go turn on the AC some lady comes out and turns it off. They only use one fan and the ajumma patrol nixes it whenever it's on as well. Are they insane? Lost water is not lost fat, it's friggin dangerous when you work out as long and as hard as I do. |

1.5 kilos???????
you must be an extremely large person to sweat off that much in one workout.
my gym is also super-hot. however, today i had a fan near me while i was on the treadmill, so it wasn't too bad. i don't get too upset about it though, because i expect to sweat at the gym--though usually not this much. |

Exactly. The thermostat in my gym is set at 35 C. It's even hotter than outside. I see all these people literally covered with sweat, yet no one complains. We have a few fans, but at that temperature it doesn't help at all. |

I'm 6'1" (187 cm) and weigh 86 kilos, so I guess that's a pretty extreme amount of sweat. My father sweats just as much though, must be in the genes.
I do work out for 2 hours/day pretty intensely.
It's just the extreme heat that pisses me off in the gym. It's not even a comfortable temperature. Then I see these ajummas in their rubber suits walking on the treadmill.
One of these days someone's going to drop dead from heat stroke in there. |

I've got the worst of both worlds...
My gym cranks the AC up to the max, and then leaves all the windows open. So it's 35 degrees, but hey, the AC's running.
Why would a place have an AC unit if not to use it on these very days? |

the foreigners at my gym have been trying to teach the Koreans about closing windows while using the AC and "aiming" the direction of fans/AC strategically.
hehe, its still 33 in there every day. bah! |

At least you have A/C. In my gym they just installed HUMIDIFIERS. Now we have these things going full blast...at a temperature of 35 C. |
