If you were going to be here until they scattered your ashes in the Han, and you had a hundred million to buy, or put down on a house (ѿ,)in Seoul, where would you look for a place? Also, proximity to grocery stores and bus routes is not a priority but proximity to trees is. Thanks for any advice. |

You could probably buy land somewhere in the central area-one of the Chungcheong-dos. They announced the new capital this week, and I suspect land prices might've dropped a lot in the area around the three contenders that didn't get picked. Another thing is to buy a hovel in the haebangcheon area as a fixer upper. Word is that when the 'Mericans head south, the Yongsan garrison will become a big Central Park type place. |

You need to do some research before buying. We bought our appartment because of its location (really quiet with a view of the mountains and not too far from a new elementary school (helps with the value)). Turns out were not the only ones who like the area. The value has climbed about 30 million won in one year. It's gonna go higher because that they will build an elementary school next door to our building, and big grocery store across the street. |

Buy north of Seoul near the Northern Han River. They will complete the new expressway eventually and it will become the weekend get away for Seoulites. Actually it already is the weekend getaway. The problem is right now you spend 5 hours in the car to 75 km. That will change when the expressway opens.
A friend of mine bought land on a dammed part of the river (basically a lake) and built a two story house with a yard for the cost of an average 40 pyung apartment in Seoul. He pays for it with an hour and a half commute to and from work but the clean air and yard make it worthwhile. |
