How not to get your motorcycle/scooter stolen tips:

I was reading that more than a few people have had their motorcycles or scooters stolen (some in broad daylight). I would like to know if there's any use in putting a standard wire lock on a motorcycle given the ease it is to cut them.

So the question goes like this: for those who had their motorcycles stolen, did you have a lock on them? And for those who have successfully or unsuccessfully used locks, did it make a difference? If so, what brand or make did you use?

As for me, someone tried to steal my motorcycle, but I had a wire lock (with the yellow and blue config). They were unsuccessful, but scratched the motorcycle in their attempt.

So what I do with my motorcycle now is lock up the handlebars, wrap the wirelock around the front wheel, and park it in front of the security desk.

I use a U-Lock I bought in Canada for my mountain bike. I brought it over with me and use it on my motorcycle. I would love to see them cut that

i got a lock for the front disc brake.
cost: 10k



1. lock the handlebars.
2. lock the front tire with the disc brake lock.
3. turn of the gas.
4. cover the bike.

thats my system...and i still got my bike.

Thanks for the replies. I usually lock my motorcycle to a tree these days.

I went to the hardware shopfronts area and found the 'chain shop' and, for 60,000 won got 2.5 meters of centimeter thick solid steel chain. It's not the kind of cheap chain that can be cut with bolt cutters. It took the chain shop guy quite awhile to saw through it. To lock the chain a padlock made in Italy that cost 80,000 won. It's overkill, maybe, but it's unlikely I'll find the bike has disappeared some day. It's a 500 so there's the power to haul the chain wrapped around the back seat rest. The bike was twelve years old when I got it and I've had it for two years. It's not ugly but it's not undesirable either. Brute force insurance = 'the mother of all chains'.
