I recently returned to Korea and I am staying with some teachers at my old school until I get my own place.

They recently had a 1 week vacation and during that period, the school was getting renovated. It was pretty worn down.

So they came back from their week long vacation to find the place STILL being renovated. Apparently all that had been done was the floors.

The place is a construction zone with all teaching matierals and resources locked up in another room. So there is no way you can teach. The rooms also reek heavily of paint fumes. Combine that with no AC. You have a pretty unpleasant picture.

However the director still expects the teachers to teach in this war zone. The teachers refuse to do so and the supervisor (I felt sorry for her here because she is stuck in a difficult position) says they have to find an alternate solution (this solution was to come and work on a Saturday).

However kids are getting headaches and sick from the paint fumes and the parents are pulling the kids out of the school. Also a lot of kids say they wont come back on a Saturday for the "make up" class.

But the highlight of this hypocrisy was that the directors son was absent from the school because his mother didnt want him in school with all the paint fumes and construction going on.

So I dont get directors that shoot themselves in the foot for the sake of few days of loss of tuition fees and teacher pay when parents are pulling kids from the school en-masse because of bad conditions.

Like when CLG said something about her director not wanting to spend a few won to get the floors buffed up on open day which would then impress the parents.

I think there are three types of humans in the world.

Male
Female
Wongjangnim.

You forgot the 4th... Ajumma!

Actually, my Korean friends consider it the 3rd gender.

Some Wongjangnim are human but many are evil creatures who should never be compared to a human and are actually little better than pond scum, and certainly of less use to the world. Some Wongjangs should be turned into industrial soap or dogfood.
