| I'm curious about what people think of the local rags. If you had to choose, which one would it be and why? |

The IHT is pretty good. The Herald is a big joke and the Times is little better. I presume you're talking about English language papers. My Korean is too poor to read the Korean ones.
IHT doesn't really count as you can read it anywhere, It's like CNN or the BBC or something. IHT+Chosun Ilbo doesn't count in my view! On another note a Korea colleague was a bit freaked when I told her I read the Chosun. She said it was very right wing! I'm a liberal in my political views and to be told I'm a fire breathing fascist was very strange
IHT is however the best and it is comforting to note that many people seem to agree. |

My boss subscribes to the Herald, and I read it in the morning just to get an idea of what's going on, plus the comics. Then on lunch break or after work I go and buy the Times so that I can read more articles. And the sports.
The Herald's "international/world" page is half a page with the rest ads. The same is true of half of their paper. The Times is bad, but not nearly that bad. At least there we get almost 2 full pages of world news and 2 pages of sports normally. Plus the comics are different in the Times, so that's good. Gotta have Doonesbury. I prefer the Op-Ed in the Times as well.

Damn Skippy! I love the FT, but can't get it anywhere down here and I just can't afford to subscribe to it. Back in university, I read it every day! How I miss it now that I'm in the 'real' world.

Definantly IHT however,
Sports Seoul is a good read for us Korean readers who are into korean sports.
Good sports coverage plus some pretty girls. What more could you want(besides decent news I know). |

It amuses me that everytime there is a storm, floods, typhoon, or natural disaster of some description in Japan, the Heral d reports it gleefully. I've noticed this several times, they can hardly disguise their gloating joy.
"TYPHOON RIPS JAPAN TO PIECES"
A Typhoon really messed up japan yesterday, causing at least 9 deaths. Our reporter is trying to find out if there could possibly be even more.
The storm destroyed a lot of infrastructure, so The Japanese will be paying for the damage for a long time" |

| They are not newspapers, except for the Tribune. They are toilet paper and should be treated as so. |

No way, it's way too coarse. You'd have a red bum in two wipes.
I'd prefer to use it as a seat cover in case I ever find a really nasty seat. |

For Korea I prefer the Herald but not by much...Used to like the inserts on Saturday from LA and Europe...
FT is 2000 won a day and cheaper by subscription. Surely not too much for a teacher salary. |

| The Korea Herald and The Korea Times are awful. It didn't bother me when I worked at a Kids Herald school and read them every day. The articles aren't 'in depth' like, say, a newspaper from London or Washington, but then its not for readers who are that fluent, is it? Still, there seemed to be a formula to its make-up. For example every edition would have something about a 'threatening' move by another country at the border, or the procurement of a new weapons system by the Korean forces. But the newspaper in my hometown is just about as bad. 'The Sunday Times' from London is more in-depth and informative, though. I'd snatch those from the subway stalls (pay for them, of course). |
