I am finishing my job soon and need to cancel my E2 visa off the back of my alien card. It is my secondary visa.

What documentation do I need to take to immigration to cancel it?

Thanks.

Are you leaving Korea or staying? If you leave then it will be cancelled anyway and if you stay it will be cancelled anyway. SO, what is the point?
If you want a new card , then get a pair of scissors, get the card and cut. Then when your contract is finished go to immigration and ask for a new card. ( pay the money).

If I stay it won't be cancelled anyway as you so politely put it, as the E2 is due to finish next March.

And if I am here on a different visa, making the E2 my secondary visa, does it sound like, or did I imply, that I was leaving?

Thanks for the advice.

You would probably need a release letter for another E-2, but since it's not your main visa, I'm not sure.

Try to get a release letter, then just go to immigrations.

As I understand (which may not be correct, just summarizing what I've read in other posts), if your E-2 visa is a secondary visa, that is, you have another visa that allows you to stay in Korea and the E-2 is just the formality for working, then you can cancel the visa yourself at anytime.

You don't need a release letter in your case, as I understand it.

You should probably check with immigration just to be sure. But keep in mind that cancelling your E-2 doesn't mean you have to leave the country since your F visa (you have an F visa right?) is your primary visa.

Cheers

You said that you will finish the contract soon...MARCH is not soon. You did not say you want to break the contract and remove the E2 visa from your record. You do not say what the secondary visa is....If you want actual help, try to be clear.

To be fair he said finishing his job soon, not finishing his contract.

All I needed to know was how to clear an E2 off the back of my card. Not a difficult question.

As I understand it, you don't need to do anything. Your employer is required to notify immigration if you are no longer working and that's it. However, regardless of what I or anyone else on this board says, you should call up immigration and verify it. If I'm wrong and you relied on what I said, you'll be in trouble, not me.
