G'day,
I'm new here. Living in Daegu. My mate's coming over from Tokyo soon and we will stay in Seoul for a couple of days. I wanna show him a good time, but I have no idea about Seoul. I was thinking about maybe DMZ tour during the day. But we wanna hit the piss at night.

Can anyone offer some ideas? i.e. where do go for a drink, cheap place to stay. etc

im a seoul virgin,

regards

Cam,
Seoul is a good town to get on the piss and stay on the piss. You can literally drink in some bars until 8am.

Hmmm ... where to start. I would stay in one of those cheap yogwans which are located all over the city for 35,000 won. The main nightlife districts are located in hongdae and itaewon -- so you might want to stay near there to cut down on taxi costs.

start in itaewon at a bar like geckos or helios and then jump in a taxi for hongdae and hit up hodge podge, mi, matmatta, stompers, ska bar, gold bar, et al. entrance fees to clubs are a little high so you might want to stay put at one place unless it's club night.

what else in seoul? temples ... movies at COEX, parks.

When are you coming up? I just moved here from Daegu 2 months ago and am planning to go out on the town with a few fellow Seoul newbs in the near future. But I've been up here several times prior to moving here, so I know the nightlife areas and the tourist trail. And if you guys are brave, I'll show you the great hangover remedy/cheap accommodations, known as the 24 hour jimjilbangs (huge public bathhouses with sleeping quarters, for 7000Won/night) Smile. There's a great one, right behind Seoul Station. Don't worry. Very safe. They even have snoring rooms for those that snore loud, as to not disturb others Laughing You can arrange to leave your bags at the front desk, while you are out. Also, next door is a rub n tug, if you happen to strike out at the bar. Very Happy

seoul... i'm a history nut so i think the palaces/temples are the coolest.

you should go to gyeongbukgung, then walk to changdeokgung. from there it's easy to check out insadong and then i'd round out the night drinking in the park in hongdae while checking out as many lame hiphop clubs as you possibly can.

and, while you do it, it's really fun to walk up to random strangers and say "hey, give me your PANTS!".
