I'm a 50+ woman in Seoul, but this message is for anyone who might be interested.

I would like to see some opportunities for older teachers (over 40, over 50 - depends on your definition; hey, it's possible that some 30-somethings would be interested... that's OK) to get together -- socialize, chat about work, see some Korean cultural events, and Speak English -- says the Waegook in hogwon with no other native speakers!

(Cultural events: that give sme a chance to plug an interesting series of KOREAN MOVIES with English subtitles now at Kumho Art Gallery across street from Kyongbok Palace on Sats 2:30/Suns. 11:30--only 5000W. Plus, post Feb 23 show there will be a talk by a well known Korean artist at Seoul Selection bookstore a few doors down the street)

I'm not much of a bar person, and a lot of other people aren't either -- and it's hard for us to meet. There are some bars with older people in Seoul, but hey, I get quite Enough Noise from my Korean kids during the workweek - don't need more noise on weekends.

Any interest Question

Please post and we can figure something out. I also think it would be nice to network a bit with older teachers in other parts of SK - I plan to do some traveling in Korea when the weather warms up, and I'd love to meet some people in other regions....

Joanne Aronson has been doing an Over 40s in Seoul group, though I've been a bit too busy the last couple of months to attend ... but, um, part of that is because I met some nice people through it and we've been hanging out a bit on our own. Embarassed

She probably won't mind me clipboarding stuff here from their website. Next meeting seems to be exactly one week from now ... maybe I'll go this time.

SUNDAY February 23 one oclock again at Marche.
Green line, Kangnam station. Meet at exit #5 between 12:30 and 1. Then at one at Marche. Go out exit 5. do not turn, go straight. Do not cross the street. Take the right. Then cross the street, continuing to go straight. In less then one minute you will see Marche. Please email me if you have any questions. And if you don't have any questions you can email me anyway.
________________________________________________________________

Well, guys and girls....come March 1, I will no longer be in Seoul. Moving to Kangneung. Any of you (beside Pat) who have been there? It is absolutely beautiful. I am going to have the beach. What more can I ask for? (well, many more things, but ttat would take too much time, too much room, and I would bore you all)
Of corse I will still be comming to Seoul once a month for meetings.
Now that this club has really become a club, I would like some people other then me to figure out where to go and what to do http://www.webspawner.com/users/over40inseoul/index.html

I think she's been looking for someone to share the organizing tasks with her, but The Bobster is a very lazy guy ... maybe canuckophile is exactly who she needs to meet?

Bobster -
I can't make next Sunday meeting, but could I get an email address? or give you mine? I'm new to board and don't know how to make this private -- I'd prefer a private exchange when it comes to email addresses, unless your friend doesn't care if her address is posted.
Thanks,
Canuckophile

That's not my call to make ... nobody's checking id, if that's what you're worried about.

In any case, best to contact Joanne prior to going. If there are too many people, they sometimes split it up over a Saturday and a Sunday afternoon, or else they would change it to a bigger venue.

Which reminds me, do you realize that most of the newbees here in Korea weren't alive at the same time as John Lennon? And they never knew Letterman when he was on NBC? The Honeymooners have no chance.

Then again, what do you expect from a generation of mallrats?

Well, Bill, I knew you would get the Honeymooners reference, anyway ...

Yeah, I've had people gasp when I casually mentioned I saw Letterman's first night on NBC ... (sigh)

I too am in this age range- but don't live in the Seoul area. I would love to have a group like this down south- where I am. Anyone out there in the Gimhae area?
