hi folks just a quick question I'm going back to work after xmas from being on maternity leave, and I'm wondering what are the chances of part time work. I don't want to leave the baby all day and would rather just work in the mornings, and I don't need housing, have you heard of any jobs with short hours around? I'm not job hunting yet but just curious.
Thanks!! |

All job boards have part time job listings. Recruiters often have listings for schools that need a teacher. The reasons can range from the current teacher running away to the simple fact that their old teacher finished his contract and went home but the new teacher can't make it in time so they need to fill the gap. Sometimes a new school doesn't have the income to justify a full time teacher.
Teachers run for non job related reasons as well as job releated reasons. The school or recruiter should offer a reason up front as to why they need a teacher part time.
Working without an E-2 is illegal. A rival school or angry customer (parent) could call immigration. The director may or may not be connected so they get advance warning. They may or may not have the guile and funds to influence the situation in heir favour. IMHO far more people work here without E-2 than get caught. The fine for the school is considerable (10 million won is what I've been told) so the school will be on your side if the worst scenario happens. Finally, Koreans love to break the rules so the odds are in your favour that you can work PT with little trouble. Sorry but I believe it irresponsible to answer your post with out mentioning the dark side.
I have seen 6 month contracts offered. It is possible to get an E-2 and release letters to move around to different jobs but... |

| Well I never had any intention of working illegally, been here two years and haven't done one private so it ain't my thing. What I'm wondering is about short hours like morning times, or kindergarten classes only. I'm just not wanting to do late nights, or split shifts because with a baby a few mths old its not really fessible. Thanks though. |

| Just to be clear I don't care if work without an E-2. This is Korea. I'm just uncomfortable saying or implying 'go for it everyone does'. I think you should answer some job ads and see what develops. Recruiters that offer lots of part time may be worth contacting. Maybe a KG where you can bring your child is possible. I've met directors of KG only schools in the past that would love that. U Chee Wan is KG only if you don't know. An established female Korean recruiter, director or teacher in your city may be your best contact. |
