| At our (private) university in Seoul we have 16 out of 22 teachers living in a campus dormitory... the building and rooms are not great but people seem to put up with it - some of them have been here 5/6 years or more. No curfews and no problems getting food delivered! The university are slowly moving married and senior teachers off campus although it appears to be a slow process. |

Sid is this the same university where a number of the teachers rooms are leaking badly? They just moved one teacher out. He'd only been living in the leaky mess since March. My understanding is he was not moved until he threatened to quit. Is this the university with the filthy laundy room? Is this the place where rooms on the bottom floor are regularly rented out to Koreans who get drunk and scream and holler all night, and occassionally vomit in the hallways. Is this the uni where teachers with almost no senority were given apartments. If it is, then only one of the couples is actually married. The other couple are boyfriend/girlfriend. What is the name of this university Sid?

| Wow! I guess I'm lucky!! 16 pyong...all alone...no dorm! New teachers sometimes get 12 p. but within a year, you get "upgraded" to a 16 p. place. I'd NEVER live in a dorm!!! |

| Does your university rent rooms to "guests of the univeristy?" The rooms may be next to your campus housing. The "guest" rooms are well-maintained, fully furnished with new funiture, newly wall-papered, newly painted, and always unavailable to you (or your friends). While in the same building, your place seems to be on slum side of the building. |

Hey, count me lucky, too:
No option of off-campus living allowance, but AKFAIK, no one wants it. I'm at a small Christian (not that you'd know, except for a big church) uni in the boonies. Great apartment. On campus, but 100% mine to do with as I please. My gf has already stayed over a couple of times, and the other profs have people over, too. Two of us have enormous sound systems and the parties to fit. Food delivery is encouraged (they left me pamphlets when I arrived), maybe 'cause students are the cooks/drivers at the local rest's.
Furnished, clean, about 14 pyung, quiet (thick walls), big balcony, great kitchen, a TUB, cheap internet (desk, chair, computer provided) & utils, gym facilities & a great library on campus, hiking trails and mountain springs, lots of space on the green for frisbee, soccer, bowers with benches everywhere to hide from the elements/sit & chat, the list goes on & on.
Maybe it's working at a big-city uni that's got all the carpy living attached? |

i live in a dorm.. i like it too..
9py, a little small but new
everything is new.. everything... form the furniture, fridge and tv down to the chopsticks..
it has it pros and cons... sure i'd like the freedom of my own joint but i also like not having to travel to work and the option of eating food in school..
i can't really come home plastered.. or i can't get shitfaced and walk out in the snow..
pros and cons.. as i said |
