Can't say I agree with your statements. I remember making such statements about many things before I tried them, only to realize I was wrong afterwards. Sometimes drinking does bring your spirits up. I've made plenty of friends while drinking. As for whether it's a useful way to spend your time or not, I'm not really sure what "useful" or "more constructive" entails in life. It's seems like a pretty subjective/philosophical topic. If having fun with friends is not "useful" in your book, then you must live a really boring life.
When I drink, I don't wake up the next day feeling like crap. I feel just fine. Drinking to get rid of stress? Well, I don't have too much stress right now, but if someone drinks for that reason, who am I to criticize it?
You suggest doing something else instead. Why not do both? I, like many other people who drink, also do many other things like you suggest. You remind me of my "straight edge" friends in high school who criticized everyone who didn't behave like them. Rolling Eyes

Dude, I have done enough in the past to make a drunk junkie blush. I don't speak of things I have no experience with and I certainly don't need to be reminded of why people believe they can/should/like to drink.

I have lost friends in high school to drunk drivers/alcohol and walked down some pretty dark, lonely roads in life, so my view is hardened. You should learn to understand that behind views there are reasons; that not everyone just spouts off about things they haven't a clue about nor a foundation on which to base their beliefs.

Nice of you to believe I am an empty talker though.

Who are you again?

I'm glad you have some experience. You're far from being alone in that regard. But you should also then know that not everybody drinks/handles alcohol in the same manner as someone else. Your statement seemed to be a criticism of anyone who drinks, generalizing them as

I also strongly disagree with drunk driving and dislike people who get violent when they're drunk. If you can't drink without causing harm to others, then yes, maybe you should rethink your choice of recreation. But for those who just want to go out with friends and have a good time over some beers...why not?

I don't drink on a regular basis, maybe a beer or two once in a blue moon.
I'm the only foriegner at my hagwon, and the Koreans leave me alone, so I haven't felt any pressure in this area. I also live like a hermit, so I don't mind that I'm not hanging and getting wasted on a regular basis.
