[quote="Homer"]This is ridiculous.
If the place has smokers and you don't like smoking then...don't go there!
Show me a PC room in Itaewon with no smokers??

Read above, Not an option yet. I can afford it but it would be a little cramped in the Goshiwan.

Go to those PC bangs with non-smoking sections.

Please read again about my fight in the non smoking section.

I won't bite you since I have no idea where you have been, who with and what shots you have had....
For a response to your responses to my response: read above..oh wait there is nothing above so read below.
If you cannot stand the smoke then go to places that have no smoke. Alternatively:
Open your very own, non-smoking PC bang!
You did however mention that you had been to a PC Bang that had a non-smoking section. The episode with the guy lighting up was recurrent or isolated?
If it is occasional I would suggest that if PCing is that crucial that you bite the bullet on the few occasions that a smoker does venture into the non-smoking section.
Otherwise...O-tent for you my man. They are cheaper then new PC's too!

this isn't non-smokers vs. smokers.
it's non-smokers vs. smokers who don't seem to give a hoot about the rules.
there are a few obstinate zeros who think that it's still okay to bust in on someone's airspace and say "if you don't like it, you should have to shell 600,000 won for your own computer, even though i'm smoking in the NONsmoking section".
those are the ignoramuses we're aiming at. i'd be willing to bet that the majority of smokers are not like that at all. like my mom. |

Smoking in many PC rooms is legal, as it is in many establishments in Korea. It's their right to smoke in these places, just as it's your right to not frequent those establishments.
You'd best get over it or....well......keep whining. |

it's also the right of the proprietor of said establishments to create a non smoking section and the right of a non-smoker to expect a smoker to respect the proprietor's wishes, because, well, it's his place of business.
duh. |

The smoking debate rages on...
I am a non-smoker btw...I avoid PC bangs if I can but should some smoker sit next to me in the non-smoking section then I:
a) Ask him to move (in Korean)
if this fails
b) Ask the attendant.
if this fails
c) Either bite the bullet or go somewhere else.
It very rarely gets to "c" as magically when I ask the guy politely in Korean, he usually moves...weird how that happens.
I also play changi in the park on sundays with the old dudes from my neighborhood and some of my opponents smoke...when we play I ask them politely not to smoke during the game and what do you know...they usually refrain from it...except for one or two grumps but there are always grumps in the world. |

(exactly, so what was your point again?)

Yes, it his right, but he doesn't have to exercise it. If he does choose to be smoke free yet a patron lights up and you just sit there with a little pout on, then enjoy the cloudy room.
Why would you go to a smoking PC room if you don't smoke? Why do you complain if the PC room IS smoking, and yet you freely choose to go there?
Solutions to problem: A) Go somewhere else. B) Buy a computer of your own. C) Deal with it.
Proactive people make changes. Reactive people get changed.

yeah, well generally the PC bang proprietor is usually too busy to notice whether or not some inconsiderate piece of scheisse is lighting up. every time i've brought it to one's attention, they've taken quick aim at the culprit.
min-gyu is especially cool about it - therefore i frequent his establishment more often than most other PC bangs.
i don't see this as us whining and complaining... more of another one of those "bad korea" threads which will continue until the end of time. one of those comments on korean society... which seems to simultaneously obsessed with a really strange sense of individuality AND following rules.
in my case, it's a PC bang with a really big, pretty well cordoned off and well marked non-smoking section. only an idiot would think it was appropriate to smoke there. therefore i have to wonder...
if you'll see my first post you'll see that i am pretty proactive. i crank NAPALM DEATH when i am defending my airspace, because it's my right to enjoy the PC bang as i see fit. so far there's no laws against death metal in korea that i know of. also i'm buying a computer.
end of thread i think. |

Incorrect. It's illegal in all PC rooms unless there is a partitioned smoking section. This law was inacted a couple of years ago, but you wouldn't know it by visiting the PC rooms. Heavy fines are supposed to be imposed on breakers of this law, but the cops have better things to do with their time than harass PC bang owners. Perhaps the cops accept *gasp!!* graft? |

This is somewhat self defeating my man.
If it is your right to enjoy the PC Bang as you see fit then it follows that it is a smokers right to enjoy the PC Bang as he see's fit.
Can't have it both ways here.... |

well that was in keeping with what demophobe said.
i wasn't disagreeing with demophobe. if someone's going to light up beside me IN THE CLEARLY MARKED NONSMOKING SECTION i'm going to assume that any 'rules' in this place - whether that place be korea or the pc bang - are rather fluid.
and hey, napalm death kick ass. have you heard "harmony corruption"? heavy as hell. they're more fun than smoking, i'm sure. |

I would agree Chris that music is more fun the smoking....then again I am a non-smoker..
To a smoker perhaps smoking has a different allure...
Best of luck in your pure air in the PC Bang quest Chris. |
