forgot password for windows 2000. How do I recover? I don't want to install a new operating system...I'll lose all my software that I already have!
I looked on the WEB for info...lot's available but maybe one of you reading this has an better way. Thanks! |

Take out the lithium battery in your computer for 6-12 hours (maybe longer)
That is what my roommate told me to do when I did the same thing a few years back. Worked like a charm. |

I suppose it's worth a try...but I'd feel like a gofer! You know...one who goes for this and goes for that sort of thing!
I can't see how removing the battery would do anything as the password is on the hard drive and would always be there.
Any one have thoughts on this? |

Unfortunately, i misread your post. The password that I lost was the CMOS one. That one can be erased thru the lithium battery. I looked up some info for you. I found this:

I think the only way you can recover your password is with a software recovery utility. |

I should also add that this is a desk top, not notebook. |
