Just something to mention if it happens to you. My girlfriend's father died recently and on the day it happened I rushed over to where they were. They were at a hospital originally, so I thought that was where they were. It turns out they were at a ʽ. This is where the family spends three days to mourn for the person and people come there to visit the family.
Well I rush over as soon as I can, but I was wearing just a white t-shirt and shorts, nor had I shaved or showered that day. I want people to know just in case, this happens to them. I was stupid and should have thought about it a little, but this was the first death of someone relatively close to me.
If you are close to the family, stay as long as you can. It is appreciated. Luckily, the family didn't mind how I was dressed, and the next day I was dressed better. Another thing to mention is that the third day is when they take the body out, so if you can take the time off, do it and go with them.
This is just stuff that I hadn't known or realized fully. I hope no one is going to be an ass and tell me I should have known better, I know that.
Another point that luckily I had already known, it is a custom to give money in an envelope to the family. Put your name on it so they know who did it. If you are unsure of how much, ask someone. The money will be used by the family to pay for everything. It will help them out.
That's it, I guess.
