I saw it on the Korean weather reports this morning but it's still down near Taiwan. Another depression to the west of it.

Does the Taiwan one have a name?

Busy season thus far. Last year we basically just had Maemi. 3 or 4 already this season.

There should be 2 on the way, no 16 & 17. I think one of them is called Aere, don't know about the other one.

I guess they're expecting it to hit Taiwan pretty bad, they closed schools & offices there.

Typhoon Aere

It seems to be moving away from Korea and towards China though:

Both are likely to miss here. The first one is headed for Hong Kong9as shown above).

The other one is one a path to Tokyo.

Yea, I saw the weather report a few hours after posting this thread.

Bummer. I was getting all excited for nothing. Damn mother nature.

The stronger is now headed for here and will be just a tropical storm by then but a lot of rain is forecast.

It doesn't look like the eye will hit Korea, but the Kyungsun-nam Do area, and the whole coast of the east sea looks like it is in for some rain at least.
The Taebak range has its way with the clouds. Anyways for a look at the storms path, this is always a good site.

I live on a South Korean Island an hour south of Busan and a bit more east, the most southeasterly locale in Korea.

And the brunt of the typhoon is heading straight for us. Not the centre of the typhoon, but where the damage is greatest, outside of the eye.

Typhoon Maemi tore off my neighbour's roof, killed a mother and her son down the street and broke my apartment door.

The typhoon most recently was downgraded to a tropical storm before it hit Korea but it still broke a lot of windows in this oceanside town.

I am getting the heck out of dodge for this weekend's fury. I'm getting out of my relatively new rooftop (!!) apartment and I'm going to my Korean friend's second floor sturdy apartment on the mainland in Tongyeong, over the hill from the sea.

Question: Why has the last three major storms hit on the weekend? I mean, it ruins the days off and leaves just in time for classes again.

Is the storm god a hagwon owner?

Ah, cool man.

I'm in the Masan area this weekend for a little trip. My first actual typhoon experience.

When is this due to hit? I'm out of here Sun. morning.

Seriously, its not as cool as you would think.
Whenever one comes people lose their lives and properties and I can't imagine it is too cool for them.

It will be here on Monday, you'll miss it completely.

It would be an experience for sure.

Of course, I would run if I saw a major one coming.

who knows what this storm is going to do. If the loop off of www.kweather.co.kr is anything to go by, the storm looks like it is sationary, and not really moving. The south of the country is enjoying some really nice late summer weather. You can see the loop here:

Yes, it's a gorgeous blue sky day here in the southeast today, Saturday.

It looks like the typhoon may only become a storm for this part of Korea on Sunday or early Monday.

Thanks to the huge mass of high pressure sweeping in from Mongolia!

This is turning into a good weekend afterall.

It's been beautiful in the southwest as well. And tonight has turned out exceptionally gorgeous.

The moon is not quite full, but extremely bright. Rode my scooter up to a mountain pass I know overlooking Wando. There were other people there too enjoying the eerie but beautiful moonlight.

Yes, thank whatever low pressure it is out there. Still, you never know what you're going to get with a typhoon.

There's one behind Chaba.

If you look on Just Because's post, they mistook 0901 for 0801.
