My pet peeves at the moment are far more connected to the admin, not the students.

- we have to be more professional. read: we have to do our own lesson plans and make our own tests. we are told this as though it does us a favour. admin peeve.

- where the hell is that science c book? why doesn't it ever get put back in the right spot?! there isn't even a right spot. admin peeve.

Well well well. At first I thought these kids were cute lil angels and then I taught my senior classes full of 14 year old brats! Mind you, they are not all bratty but I have this one class full of crazy Korean girls who think by replying with extremely dumb answers to my questions will make them look cool in front of the class. Yes I hate these girls. It's hard to believe because I love kids even the jerks but these girls are out of this world. Other teachers keep on telling me that when Korean girls turn a certain age..."Watch out", their fangs come out for ya. But I can't say that's true for sure. But really what is it about these teenie bopper bratty chick's attitude problem? One of the worst girls in the class, mother's a PSYCHOLOGIST!! She needs to check herself.

How can I put these girls in line?

Ohhh the "finisheeee"

I have nightmares.

The WORST is during a dictation test, when you read the last spelling word, and at the end they ALL need to scream "finishee" as they write the last word.

Tried it all - "Um, of COURSE you are finished, the TEST is finished..." which despite the fact that they understand my language, they can't understand my annoyance at their exclamation;
- everytime ANYONE yells that they are finished the whole class gets an X/angryface/more work/etc.
-write lines of "In English we say "I'm finished" and right now, no I'm NOT finished!"
- ignoring it flat out, saying "look at the way Jenny sat nicely and didn't say a word when SHE finished! Jenny gets a sticker for that one!"

NOTHING WORKS. Often I find myself trying to remember if kids in schools back home did this???

And yes, the interrupting! I refuse to acknowledge anyone who interupts, other than to get someone else to "say the rule-- don't interrupt." It doesn't help that if you are one day talking to another Korean teacher and a student walks up and jsut starts talking, the Korean will ignore you and turn to listen to the student....so all of the "don't interrupt" I hammer into them in class is just beyond them...they think I'm just mean.

My biggest pet peeve is with konglish pronounciation, which is reinforced by the korean teachers.

Ex:

yes-suh, de elefant-tuh lives-suh in de joo.

or

my favorite-tuh friut-tuh is-suh affles

but what can you expect in an en-guh-li-shee langua-gee school?
