How many other females have gotten followed by Korean men?
I was followed home by one right to my apartment in Mokpo the other day. I said " shoo, shoo ( not show show)!" He smiled and wouldn't go so I roared " fawk aff" in my Belfast accent and that seemed to do the trick! Twisted Evil
However, I would like to state that the majority of Korean men are well mannered and pleasant, well at least to me, in Mokpo!

Yes, most Korean men are fairly well mannered, the problem is that in the 20 or so million that are here, that leaves room for quite a few jackasses.

Maybe the guy lived nearby, and it's just one of those personal space issues, but it's better to be safe than sorry. You're generally safer here than you would be in North America, but as a western woman in a small town, it doesn't hurt to be aware that you're probably a (harmless but creepy) freak magnet too.

Take the usual precautions you would at home and you'll be fine.

Shocked It is not just the "Hens" that get followed; it also happens to us "Roosters".

My first year in Korea, and I had not been here very long, I went to Pusan from Koje Do by ferry to go shopping for shoes. I need sixe 285 and that did not exist on Koje do.

Even in Pusan, it took all day, until a Korean lady whose husband has the same size took me to the Russian store where I fond my size and bigger.

Yes she took me. You know, no matter how many bad things I might post about Korea, and I need to to get out some stress, I have been all over the world and all over my country (USA) and only in Korea have people gone so far out of their way to help me as they do here.

Anyway, back to the topic. After I got back to the island I was waiting for a friend to pick me up at the station (also Korea Very Happy ). Well, I am one of those people Embarassed I mean chickens, who can't stand still for a minute.

So, I was walking around all over the station, went upstarirs, down, etc., killing time waiting for my friend. Well, it seemed to me that this guy (Korean) was following me. But, I figured he was like me and couldn't stand still. So, I just forgot about him.

A bit later I had like my 4th can of coke. So, then I had to get to the little rooster's room.

I had forgotten about "him". Well as I was just "finishing" he comes up right beside me and we will just say he made his intentions quite clear. Shocked

Well, I imagine many guys at this sight might have gotten into a fight over it, or whatever. In any case their reaction would have not been the same as mine.

Well, I have never before been in this situation. What did I do? I started laughing hysterically. Left the RR and could not stop laughing for 10 minutes. My friend was there about 5 minutes later. I tried to tell him the story, but I kept cracking up and could not tell it.

Well any way, over the years, I have been "followed" many times. But, now I know, when that happens DON'T go into a public bathroom. Just ignore it. But still, when it happens I start to laugh again like I did the first time. And I think often that scares them off. They think I am crazy. Laughing

Mez, you probably did the best thing, but be prepared to back it up in the future with a little poke to the throat or something.

Been followed plenty of times, just gotta be aware of your surroundings and keep a close eye on anyone who is acting strangely. Mind you, I'm male and a body size or two bigger than the average K male. Still, I don't want trouble, and rarely let it find me.

I was followed by a Korea guy once. It happened in Inchon at the airport. He followed me right after we got our bags and all the way to the curb where the cabs are.

I could not shake him...oh wait..he was the luggage porter.... Laughing

Not so cool to joke about this kind of thing Homer. It's a sad fact of life here, but for foreign women, getting harassed is pretty common and attacks happen a lot more often than people would like to think.

Sometimes, white women get mistaken for being Russian whores and get followed.

I had a friend in Daegu, who was nothing special and she certainly didn't fit the look of what I've seen of the Russians outside juicy bars, like Odyssey in Daegu or on Texas Street in Busan (only stopped in for a beer, because we were thirsty, btw Wink ), and she was propositioned in the middle of a crosswalk in an intersection in downtown Daegu, in broad daylight. They guy kept following her and waving a wad and trying to lead her to a yeogwan.

Sometimes, before going to sleep at night, I pray to be followed by hot ajummas. Cool

I get asked if I'm Russian pretty regularly, though they generally believe me when I say no. It doesn't seem to matter much what a girl looks like or how she's dressed, though blondes seem to get asked more often.

Many single Korean men are unabashed louts. (The demographic circumstance brought about by aborting so many girl-babies is beginning to manifest.) My wife was followed halfway home one afternoon by such a lout, and when it became clear that she could outrun him, he propped himself up against a tree and beat himself off, in broad daylight. She, of course, ran even faster. Has civility EVER existed in this land?

Coolsage, PLEASE tell me you are joking!!! That's damn freaky anywhere!

What does it mean when you are male and people "mistake" you for Russian?

I've heard a lot of stories like coolsage's both from Korean and foreign women, particularly around girls middle and highschools. I've never experienced it first hand, but friends and former students have.

I think the best thing to do is point and laugh in that situation though Twisted Evil
