Hey ex-pats,
What are you doing on the 5-day weekend that starts on Sept. 25th?
This is my first year in Korea. Would it be a good time to go sightseeing in Korea, or is everything likely to be closed? Would it be better to go out of the country, or are all the planes likely to be booked?
Maybe I should just fish around for other stranded foreigners to hang out with? Any takers? I'm near Yongin City, by the way.
What have you guys done to amuse yourself during Chusok? |

It's the most hellish time to travel in country that you can imagine, but Seoul is pretty great cause its not as crowded. |

If the weather is good, travel up the beautiful east coast to Sokcho and Sorak Mountain.
If the weather is not so good, go to Gyeongju and roam the ruins.
I'd gladly go with someone who loves both nature and history, perhaps anthropologically or archeologically inclined. |

Thanks for the advice! Were you at the GEPIK training centre? Did we discuss margueritas and hot tubs? Just guessing, based on your username. |

My girlfriend and I are heading to Mokpo to visit where she was born and then tour some of the countryside there for the weekend, then back here to Jeju to spend Chuseok with her family! It should be interesting as it will be the first time I've participated in anything like this with a Korean family as opposed to the odd Korean friend. I hope I don't screw things up!

If you're in seoul or gyeonggi do I would advise against travelling as the traffic will be hellish. enjoy some of the museums etc. in seoul sans the crowds. there is usaully interesting things to see around the city too. |

I would also avoid any travelling that requires you to go onto any expressway.
Not fun. |

I appreciate the feedback, guys. I think I'd like to wander around Seoul, just as long as there are buses running, and a few places open. |

busses will run, and most things will be open, though some might not on the Tuesday ( actual Chuseok) |

Does the traffic- bus and train- let up by Sunday? I was hoping to travel after the majority of Koreans have gotten to their destinations, and before they return. Is this a reasonable expectation? |

The peak go-slows on the highways will be outward-bound from Seoul friday night & saturday, & Seoul-bound on wednesday. In-between days will still be busy but not so bad. I dont know about the trains -- you might try reserving now? |

Lotsa luck with getting a train ticket by now. I just tried to book tickets to Mokpo from Seoul, and all that's left is standing room only on the Mugunghwa (slowest train in the ROK) leaving at 7 a.m on Saturday. There is nothing coming back to Seoul on Wednesday, so I'm stuck taking the bus (8 hours? 10 hours?).
I'm desperate enough to get out of Seoul that I'm doing it (final destination Chejudo), but I'm REALLY wishing I'd planned earlier. Much, much earlier. |

Damn....I want to go to Seoul during the vacation. What are the chances of me getting a ticket going there? I would find out myself but I am unsure how to do that myself
