over the summer some girls in my dorm were talking about if u walk 10,000 steps per day then you'll be healthy.

i think you can easily do 10,000 steps in korea.
though your legs will be killing you...trust me!

do lots of walking, 20 sit ups, push ups and jumping jacks per day; increasing the number say every month til u reach 100.
that should probably help u, regardless of what u eat. that doesn't mean go crazy on the food, but yeah...

Eat responsibly, and exercise for 40 minutes a day at least 3 or 4 times per week. That exercise should include at least 10 minutes of cardio-vascular exercise (fast walking/jogging/etc.) where your blood pressure is above 130 or more during that time.

The other 30 minutes, I recommend weight lifting -- perhaps on machines, in your case. Find out what weight you can barely lift 10 times in a row, then do that twice. Then move on to the next machine.

Oh yes another poster helped me remember this....there are two things you should try first and foremost if you want to lose weight:
1. Examine your medications, including birth control. Depo-provera is NOTORIOUS for making women gain weight. Other meds and birth controls are horrible for your body too. Quit your meds, if you're able to first, ESP if you never had a weight problem earlier in life.
2. This may sound completely nuts, but quit bad habits. Drugs, drinking, and yes, smoking ciggarettes (popular to contrary belief) can mess up your system and make you GAIN weight. Imagine how weird (and nice!) it is to quit smoking and all of a sudden drop sizes! Yes, it happens, especially if you have a sensitive body chemisty...sometimes things like smoking can wreck your metabolism and your health.
3. I still swear by my kimchi rule. Ya'll I know it tastes horrible. It really does, but I swear by it. That and skim milk. I have read medical studies about both of those things, and I swear they work like a charm. I read similiar things about grapefruit as well, but have yet to try it. Besides kimchi and milk, I eat whatever I want, including occasional fast food when I'm in a rush. Oh and taking vitamins every day works like a charm too I think.
I just have a philosophy. Weight problems aren't because of how much you eat-it's WHAT you eat (junk food is ok ya'll, just mix it up with healthy fare-like a mix of Western and Asian). And also a sign of illness or poor body chemistry. That's why I said drop any meds and bad habits first. I really wish I were an MD so I could do a formal study on this Crying or Very sad

In Japan these little 'step-counters' were popular. My boss here in Korea has one too, so I guess they're available here too.

mcdonalds has them also in their "adult meals" ...adult happy meal...whatever it's called.
but i dunno if they have those in korea.

heck, i found that walking around between edae and shinchon and going down to dongdaemun and back to edae/shinchon gave me the 10,000...

If you have a chance, join a martial art while you are here. It's a lot more fun than a gym and you learn some basic korean pretty quickly. Be picky!! there are alot out there.

www.caloriecount.about.com

It's free. It has a calorie counter, food log and an activity log for exercise.

Count calories and make sure (as someone has already mentioned) that you are eating less than you burn.

Basically, make sure you eat at least 1200 calories a day, but eat less than the basic amount your body needs for your daily activities. Drink lots of water and be active. do exercise. Take the stairs instead of the elevator...anything...

The website has tons of support forums with tons of information about nutrition and fitness. You can count and log your daily caloric intake and activity calories burned.

Good Luck Very Happy

Difficult choice that one. NOT!

I find your comments offensive. If you have nothing contribute, don't post.
