I'm busy putting together the oh-so-professional resume and wanted to see if it was overkill to attach a "nice" photo of myself into the body of the resume. It almost makes sense since you have to send a bunch of photos (besides the passport mugshot) when you apply ((right???))

Can I sneak in a request for good tips on resumes and cover letters specifically geared towards finding work in Hogwans? - Thanks Cool

I've wanted to know the answer to this question too!

I make my resumes short. Usually more than 2 pages is too long.

I include:
1. Character section: how do u see yourself, how do people see you, your strengths.
2. Goals section.
3. Education.
4. Experience
5. Other Employment
6. References: only if required

As an American, we're used to only adding a few bullet points about your qualities and then dig right into related work experience. Embarassed

It's hard to sum yourself up on 1-2 pages when there are so many different aspects or slants you could take depending on who your audience. Not knowing how Hogwan Director's head ticks... what to include, what to keep out.

Is there any place to view sample resumes to get some inspiration those who have succeeded in finding placement in a Korean Hogwan?

As always, uber-thanks for any input anyone can give Wink

We highly suggest it. We did it and it has helped us a lot- we've gotten a lot more responses. Though we still have not found anything . . .

Resumes are totally over-rated here. Take the amount of time and thought in putting together a great resume and cover letter, and put it into getting a great photo of yourself done up.

I got a resume/photo from a guy once, who had a photo collage of him made, in 3 different settings. One professional body shot, another of him in a classroom situation with kids, and another with him smiling and laughing next to a kid. Huge seller! I had 3 of my schools wanting him, but he was off the market in less than a week from one of the 20 other offers that he was getting hit with.

An attractive Kyopo girl emailed me 10 photos along with her resume. All with her in various settings in her current hogwan. She was gone in 2 weeks.

The photo is the where it begins and ends. Just make sure the resume looks clear and legible. They only look at nationality, degree major, your university's name (just to see if it is well-known/marketable to Koreans, which basically only means ivy league), and your esl experience in Korea, if any. Then they wipe the food off their face with it and toss it to the side, while going over and over your picture and trying to picture the type of person that you are.
