Having been in Corea for several years, I still find it hard to go out and do something on my own or with friends.
There is a place that helps with usiing your free weekend time,
www.adventurekorea.com is a great place to look into. It is run by a Korean man who speaks fluent English. The goal is go on trips that occur about 3 times a month. The trips range from going paint balling, caving, rafting or slinging mud during the mudfestival.
This weekend there is a trip to Soraksan park - 2 days, bus, food, lodging for only 65 000 won.

You get to meet loads of people and there are enough people that go that you will surely find a few cool ones that suit your fancy.

Is this a personal testimonial from one who's done it?

With the avatar of Quebec you use the French spelling, how apt.

i've gone on several trips with adventure korea. i definitely think they offer a worthwhile service to foreigners. but, not all the trips are worth it. some of the trips, for example, to soraksan, are easy enough for even a newbie to do by oneself, and for cheaper.

but, once in a while, they go to lesser known places that a foreigner would not necessarily hear about....those are good trips.
also, i'll warn against trips that they leave at midnight and travel through the night to get to the destination. it's not easy to sleep on the bus (especially when other travelers are more interested in drinking) and hiking a mountain at 5:30am on no sleep.

saying that, this year i've gone with them to daedun mountain (awesome trip), rafting, and to the mud festival. all very good trips and worth the money.

F.Y.I.
I guess you are either new to "K"orea, or never heard of what the Japanese did to change the spelling from "C" to "K".
If you follow the alphabet, "C" comes before "J", "K" comes after "J".
So the Japanese cold not have "Corea" come before, "Japan."
Hence the spelling. Although most Coreans use "K" the elders would still use "C"

Note: during the World Cup, it was tough to find any, posters, towels etc, that was not spelt with a "C"

Hope that makes some now
a la prochaine

Fallacy.
All of this has been feed by student groups and groups opposing Japan.
I love Korea and have been here a long time as well but this one is up there with fan death.

Another Korean nationalistic pride excercise. The C was changed to a K yes, but after Japanese occupation, during Japanese Occupation the country of Korea didn't even exist. It had the name given to it by the Japanese called Chosun, from the korean derivative Joseon. never was the name changed from a K to a C during occupation by the Japanese.

Don't believe me read this(a korean perspective at that)

BTW...adventure korea sounds like a blast, wish i could get along but I live in the deep south Smile

This is not true. There were thousands of souvineer items that spelled Korea correctly with the "K." There might have been some that had "Corea" but anything that looked official, or had a worldcup logo did not have "Corea."

I had no problem finding many many things during the worldcup that said "Korea."

Granted, this is the time that Koreans decided that they should unofficially change the spelling of their country's name, but as I told my students (and as I now tell you), the ENGLISH spelling is with a K. If you want to spell it in French or Spanish or Italian, then you can put a C. Otherwise, you have a spelling error on your paper.

Back to the topic: I looked at the website, and there seems to be nothing planned for after September. Do they just not plan far in advance> Like one month?

I was also curious about that. I like to plan in advance a bit, and I already have plans for Choo-sok.

yeah, they usually don't plan too far ahead. don't know why. the guy said that people are always backing out at the last minute, or just not showing up and they're left with empty seats. i think he doesn't plan ahead because then people will find other plans and be backing out, asking for money back, etc. that's my theory.
