Hello,
I'm going to buy a bike tommorrow. We are both going over to the Yongsan District Office together to tranfer the bike over to me. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should know beforehand. I'm gonna bring all my stuff ..like passport , Arc card, Can. Drivers license with motorcycle credentials ( It's a 124cc).
What should the seller bring? Obviously his Reg. Papers...but should he bring the plates too? Should he bring his insurance docs? Can I take over his insurance for that matter? Can I take over his plates? Or do I have to go to seperate building to get the plates firsts ..then the insurance, or is it the other way around?
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows about this...
P.S. How can you identify I bent frame on a motorcycle? |

I've been through this rigmarole 3 times now and I still don't understand it. I always had to bring my korean friend to sort it out. I know a few things though...
-you don't have to get a new number plate. sure, you can if you want to, like if the seller doesn't trust the buyer to change the ownership then they can remove the plate and leave it up to the buyer to get a new one. but if you are both going to the office together then it's unnecessary. um, unless the bike is changing cities I suppose, because korean plates have the place of registration on them....
anyway, you'll need to know the plate number so you can write it on the forms. and if you need to take it off the bike there'll be some ajossi hanging around outside the office who'll take the plate off for you and charge you 1000won. New plates are available in the office.
nah, you can't take over the sellers insurance. you have to get your own and the seller can apply for a refund if there's some time left on their insurance. The insurance guy seems to hang around in the office too, so there's no need to go somewhere else. You just need to find him and give him 80 000 or so. I think you have to have insurance before you can change the ownership but I'm not sure about that.
I'm not sure about your Can. license either. i presume that's a canadian license? I think you have to get a korean license, which seems to be pretty simple for canadians... take your license and a photo into the drivers license office, fill in a form, pay 5000 and they'll give you a korean license. but I'm a New Zealander so maybe you guys get a free ride with this like you do with visas
bent frame? has it been in a smash? I reckon ride it and if it's anything serious it will pull to one side or the other, or it will turn more easily in one direction.
good luck |

Thanks for the info..
I was able to get the insurance there as well.
For those of you who are buying a motorbike or car you have to do the Reg transfer at the BUYERS district office...not the sellers.
I hope this saves someone four hours some day... |

i've been pulled over and nothing happened. i just keep cruising.
about the bent frame?
get going about 40km and let go of the handlebars. if the bike wobbles, then there might be a problem. |

Hi Guys...
Just traded the scooter in for an RX-125 in Toegyero. I got it from some dealer guy opposite the Suzuki dealership that spoke a bit of English. Just a quickie... I've got the registration documents and stuff. Do I just take them to the Gu office and is it the same procedure as the big dude Tony said when he replied to the OP?
Cheers,
J |
