Hi,
I've been offered a position in Gwangju, Greater Seoul (not to be confused with the "fifth biggest city in S.K" Gwangju).
Kinda like the sound of the offer on the table, but before I accept I was wondering whether there was anybody there now who could give me a heads-up about the town.
Been reading through the site and have already got some good info from other posts, but thought I'd might as well fire one off myself!
Cheers,
Dan |

That Gwangju is a small town in Gyeonggi Do. It's south east of seoul. I've been there a couple of times with my school to observation classes. It really is a small town, but there are regular bus connections into seoul but it would take about an hour to reach the eastern outskirts of seoul. So if you are a party animal than you're probably going to hate it.
On the plus side because it's a small town it's not so polluted and the people seem to be friendlier than in the burbs of seoul. Also I should imagine that there are plenty of nice walking trails and back to nature type deals.
There are couple of smaller little villages around the place. And by little I mean little. A pc bang, a hogwon and a few villas. |

crazylemongirl,
Thanks for the reply.
I am into outdoor type stuff, so this sounds like a good place - however, I do like a bit of nightlife and also to party a bit (who doesn't?), so I think I'll have to compromise a little. I think if Seoul was any farther away I would have to give it a miss.
Do you work in Seoul? |

I live in Kwangju City. It's about a 20 minute bus ride to Moran station. There isn't a whole lot to do around here, but I still am closer to Seoul than I was last year. |

Thanks Joseph,
Wheres Moran station?
So what do you get up to typical weekdays? I am sort of playing around with the idea of studying some of the language, but from what everyones saying about G, I doubt there's much in the way of language schools for foreigners close by?! |

Probably no language school, but there should be a Korean willing to teach or do a language exchange of some sort. |

Small Town Ohio system (pop. 100-1000)
Or, small town Korean System (pop. 200,000 -????)
I am serious. I came from a small town in Ohio (pop. 300).
Before I came to Kwangju, I lived in a small town in Korea. At least all the Koreans said it was a small town. The pop was 250,000 .
I like the Ohio system better.

Hi everyone,
I have just accepted the Gwangju offer, so I am bound for there early October - if anybody's around and fancies guiding me to the nearest watering hole, I'd be obliged!
Cheers for all the advice
