I have a white female friend who recently took a job in Bundang. She's getting the "are you Russian?" a lot from middle aged Korean men and seemed mystified why she appears Russian to them. Oh sweet innocence. I had to clue her in on the idea that middle aged Korean men seem to think all white women are Russian prostitutes (much in the same way a lot of North American men might think all Thai women are prostitutes).

Anyway she was unaware of the popularity of Russian prostitutes here. I mentioned this to my, errr, lover and she noted that Bundang was considered the epi center for Russian sex services. Seoul salary men all go packing off for a night of drinking and sleeping with Slavic women.

Can anyone verify that Bundang is big stomping ground for men looking to procure the services of white women? She added that female ESL teachers have even had cops try to shake them down, thinking they're ho's.

I advised my friend that as soon as she gets her alien card, to keep it handy at all times for just those occasions.

Then again, most Korean men think I'm Russian, too Confused

(Just as a side note, I have nothing against Russians. If someone in North America asked me if I was Russian or had Slavik blood in me, I think I would be flattered....it would make me a bit more "exotic" than I am. Which is not at all. But here in Korea where they treat Russian women worse then the dogs chained up at the dog farm, to me it feels like every cab driver or Korean man who says...."Ahhh, you Roo-see-ah saram?" I feel that what they are saying to me is "Ahhh, you look like easy slutty girl!" AND I SO DO NOT!)

Don't take it so personally. What they mean is that they notice the white skin and they WISH you ( and the rest of us) were "easy slutty girl".

Here's a story. I was asked by a relatively young man if I spoke English or if I was Russian (he asked me in English). I was dumbstruck. I couldn't answer in any language. WHY? He had just come to find his American friend IN THE TEACHER'S ROOM OF AN ENGLISH HAGWON!!!

When I mentioned this in class (course I didn't say who the jerk was) my students tried to tell me it was a compliment because Russian women are very beautiful.
