Ok, so here's the deal. I came to Korea under a contract with a hagwon who does sub-contracting to a public elemntary school. The job at the public elementary school is awesome! no complaints at all, however, there are several issues that have me confused and hopefully I can get some help.

1) I had to sign a contract with the public elementary that was in Korea. I have been told that this contract effectively wipes out any contract I have with the hagwon. Can anybody verify the legalities of this for me?

2) The contract I signed with the hagwon was the standard contract that every recruiter I talked to sent to me: 1.9 million/per month for 30 hours a week. I'm wondering...by 30 hours a week do they mean only teaching time? Because at the public school I get an hour of prep time on both Monday and Tuesday plus lunch and ten minute breaks in between classes. So in total I spend 27 1/2 at the public school. Then I am expected to teach one class a day at the hagwon but the director wants me at the hagwon at 4:00 for the 4:40 class (obviously for prep time). Finally, now he wants me to teach one more english class to a group of advanced students every thursday at another elementary school...this is in addition to everything else. So in total I figure that I am at work 36 hours a week as opposed to the 30 specified in my contract. Am I right or am I wrong? please help. thanks

30 hrs a week is actual teaching time, that does not include preps. However, it is not legal for you to teach at the public school and the hogwan. You are only allowed to teach at one location unless both locations will be put on your e2. You certainly cant teach at 3 locations. Will the public school sponcer you? Who is aying for your apartment? if it is the hogwan, you are not allowed to be teacing in the public school. The contract you signed will be null and void, and perhaps you will be deported. Do something about this Monday. Find out who will employ you, and only work there.

Prep time and lunch is not normally included in working hours. but the ten minute breaks between classes at the elementary school are. If you're travelling between schools so much you can try to negotiate either a travel allowance for taxis, or paid travel time. There's no guarantee, but it's worth trying.

As well-make sure that your ARC is stamped so that you've got immigration's permission to work at all these locations, otherwise you could get into big trouble. The hagwon boss needs to take your ARC to immigration along with a form listing the other schools he wants you to work at. A few days later and you're good to go!

hmm

the hagwon pays for my apartment, however, the school aparently pays my salary directly into my bank account. the director said something about having to open two accounts one for him and one for me.

You are getting yourself into a deep pile of garbage my friend. Under nocircumstances are you to let him open an account for you. Straighten this out Monday. You are breaking the law, and I hate to tell you this, but you are goig to be (possibly) deported. What you are doing is not legal. You only can work at one location unless you have more then one on your E2. And you certainly cn't work at 2 public schools and a hogwan. Please take care of this first thing Monday. Please.

They should be included but often they are not.

Working at two places without immigrations permission is illegal and you could be fined and deported.

If your boss keeps finding other work for you just say 'sorry but I cant fit anything more into my schedule' unless of course you are going for the bucks.

If your boss is telling you this is legal.. ask to accompany him to the imigration office for verification.

This situation could land you in a world of trouble man and in the least take advantage of you.
