"your stomache and mouth will soon be joyous".. That's from the opening of cuisine korea. Or as they call it: "koo-zine korea". Or maybe that's the correct American pronunciation, but in Canada we pronounce it the French way, so it always makes me laugh.
Personally I really like the show "My Funky Family". I love how every other episode centers around someone trying to get married but then somehow being foiled (like the person they picked turns out to be mad).
The fashion show is always interesting to watch. It's like a train wreck. The host always has to babble platitudes for two minutes before they start a segment. Inevitably they don't know what to say, so it's just a string of disconnected idioms. The other day she signed off with "until next time, we will see you back here at the same time on the same channel, or maybe just a little bit sooner".
What?

I guess that I am in the minority, because I like Arirang TV. I agree about the commercials and the promos, but a lot of the shows give me insights into everyday life that I would not get anywhere else. Some of the documentaries are wonderful, and where else would I see what a group home for developmentally disabled adults looks like? I remember a story about a man who moved back to his hometown to operate a bus, because there was a need for it. Considering all the nonsense about how Korea is all cellphones and high tech, it is nice for an American to see what life is like outside of professional Seoul. The channel isn't perfect, but it is far more interesting than watching Oprah on AFN.

VJ soy - She does the strangest things with her hands....

Did anyone notice the current drama...I think it's called Hug in the Dark...features a younger Choi Min Shik ( the terrific actor from Old Boy)?

Yeah, i don't pay attention to that guy. I'm looking at the hot korean girl to the left. He's there so that silly waygooks will feel comfortable that the english translation of the korean is correct. DUUUUuuuuuUUUUuuuuUUUuhhhhhhhh.

And about those russian folks speaking good english... all that tells me is that there's a writer or someone who can speak english. Their horrible mispronounciation isn't just an accent, it's just plain awful. A parrot can speak good english if you tell it what to say.

It's not like they're jamaican mon. If so it would be just groovy, you know. And the parts they are playing are usually of famous AMERICAN ACTORS. So you would expect them to at least try an american accent.

Arirang isn't much different than other Korean stations. My big problem with Arirang is that it lacks in-depth investigative reporting (just like the English language newspapers). I think it should try to do a better job at informing us of such things as a serial killer being on the loose and of products that are unsafe to consume. It almost seems as if they want us to think Korea is the bestest place in the whole wide world.

Yeah, Noel, I never heard you use the word "golly" in class! Laughing

I just don't watch Arirang anymore, most of it's so boring. There's a lack of professionalism and quality that should be in a TV channel.
That heart to heart chick is just weird. I can't figure out if she's cute or weird-looking.
But I will say that cuisine korea show, despite the bit about joyous stomachs and mouths, there are some hot girls hosting that show. There's one really hot girl on there, one episode she was in a bikini! Very Happy
And I did like those nonstop reruns and some of the documentaries.
Overall though the English is just so unnatural.
