I went to some bank today to exchange 100 dollars. The woman mistakenly gave me the exchange plus the original hundred dollars back. Would you take it or give it back?
I gave it back. Of course, I could certainly have spent it and spent it well. |

I'd have given it back.
I've been on the other side of the desk before, plus I'm all for honesty and integrity. |

When the till was down $100 at the end of the day, you best believe they would have gone through the receipts to figure out where it was lost and then they would have watched the transaction on the tape. You're lucky you're so honest. |

I'd give it back for sure. $100 isn't anything to me in the long run but the poor woman it might well cost her her job. |

I would have given it back too. When I was fairly young my Dad got too much change back from Canadian Tire and ended up driving an extra 30 minutes just to bring the 5 bucks back. That's the kind of person I want to be too. You did the right thing. |

Once upon a time I would have kept the money--bank error in your favour indeed. I don't mind screwing a bank: enough of them have screwed me & mine (are you listening CIBC?)
But Monopoly was written in 1933, and banks have long since offloaded such errors onto the hapless employees who make them. So in effect you'd have been screwing the employee out of at least $100, if not her job.
Good on ye for being decent and returning the cash.

I would have given it back. However, if it were that arrogant, insulting jerk I constantly had to deal with at Nonghyup bank, I would have kept it. And never gone back. F$$$ him. |

Someone pulled a stunt like this on me when I worked as a waiter. I ended up paying the loss out of my own pocket.
No question... back I'd go... |

Of course I would be sorely tempted to keep it, but I'm giving it back. |

I don't know where you live, but in BC, Canada it's against the law for the business to pass on the costs of doing business to the employees. Theft is a CODB. This applies to waiters and bank tellers alike. I worked at a cafe that had a "stiff fund" we were all supposed to pay into in case one of us got stiffed. Eff that I said, I know the law, and I'm not paying. Well no one else wanted to pay if I didn't pay, so that was the end of the stiff fund. |

Without a doubt I would do it. I found a wallet with over $300 US in it. I was living on kraft dinner at the time and could've used the money but I returned it. |
