Dead Computer - how do I start again?

I was messing about with my computer, trying to trim a few files I thought were unnecessary and I perhaps got carried away because I think I've killed my computer. It now only appears in safe mode, and a decidely crippled safe mode at that, i.e. it is entirely useless and unable to do anything.

What can I do? My computing knowledge is limited, and I have no software for this computer. I don't care about saving anything as I didn't have much of use on there, but I'd like to get it up and running. In effect, I just want to start again.

What would I need to achieve this? Where can I get it?

As peppermint says.

If you don't know anyone with a copy of Windows (whatever version your computer can handle is ok) then you can go to Yongsan and buy a not quite legal copy of English Windows for 10-15,000 of the guy in the tunnel. Just pop it in your CD-rom and it's just a matter of following fairly easy instructions. You should be up and running in 20 mins.

This way, of course, will wipe whatever you had on the hard drive before the crash.

Other ways, less radical ways, are beyond me.

Hi, thanks for the advice.

First, Peppermint, what is OS?

Am I correct in thinking that if I get a copy of Windows, I can just pop in the CD into the CD player of my massacred machine, and crank the baby right up? I have no cares about losing everything I had previously. In fact, I'll be glad to be rid of all the crap.

I'm not a Seoul resident alas, so Yongsan is out of reach. Possibly a friend may have Windows. It's that easy is it?

OS is operating system, like Windows. If you get a cracked copy of windows, hunt down some new cracks just in case( they might not work with the new service packs) and if you're really cautious, the programs that your printer and what ever else use.

demophobe has the right idea... restore the stuff from your recycle bin before you consider anything else..

first of all i would suggest not formatting and just reinstall windows.. (keep your drivers that way)

if you are gunna format... make sure you have the correct hardware drivers..

you mentioned you hadn't any software.. it could be a bunch of fun for you (not)

Get a copy of WinXP and go from there. It may not have all of the drivers you need, but it does have a pile of generic ones that will get you on the net to download the proper drivers for your sound/video.

Having computer problems with no software is going to be going nowhere fast.

Make sure you have an updated crack, to handle the service packs. I got one from here a while ago

I strongly recommend buying a legit copy if you are the sefl-confessed novice you are. Unless you are willing to invest the time necessary to learn how to deal with pirate software, stay legit.
