and the really sad part is that most of these guys (and gals) had no real choices presented to them in life other than joining the us military. |
Please!! I disagree that MOST of our armed forces had no real other choice than to join the military. cheeky you are just as bad as the ones who bash the military. you are perpetuating a common misconception. the "privilege" of school is attainable by anyone, just because you don't come from a rich family doesn't mean you can't go to school, I took loans out for my education, it wasn't handed to me by anyone. the men and women in our armed forces ALL made the decision to join, nobody forced them to, bottom line is, that is the path that they have chosen. so cheeky, if you are going to defend our armed forces don't make them all out to be underprivileged youth with no other options, I'm sure many of them would take offense to that. Life is what you make of it. |

If they are hanging out in the open in larger groups, the worse that they are plotting is another bad Indian food restaurant and they are collectively discussing, 'And then we can serve this...and we can do that...and we can buy one of those blah-blah for the kitchen, and then....'
A large concentration of people of Middle Eastern descent, gathering in public (in a very popular social area renowned for it's entertainment and nightlife, no less) to meet and discuss, might actually be a friendly social gathering with their fellow countrymen, too. Don't we do the same? *pauses* Naaahhh....OF COURSE they are plotting something bad and disasterous. Doyyyyyy! Look at the color of their skin, right? Turn off the TV. You've got too much Bush in the brain.

| The thing is, there was a bunch of suspicious incidents in the Itaewon area a while ago, involving not just Muslims, but a Korean woman, and some Africans ( I think?) Anyway, I posted about it in the Current events forum when I heard. |

Rather than it being a matter of the soldiers not knowing when to come home, it could be there is a threat to them. Now that the Koreans have finally arrived in Iraq, there are Iraqis as well as Koreans upset.
But then if your first reaction is to interpret anything to do with the US in the worst possible light, that wouldn't occur to you, would it? |

Some good points here.
As a high school senior, I'll never forget when I was "given" the chance to go to college.
Kinda like how I remember all of those Arabs hanging around the WTC.
They weren't going to a mosque.
No no. Much worse. They were WEARING their robes.
The nerve... |

Hmmm...
Does anyone recall what Terry Nichols and Timothy McVeigh were said to be wearing when they were staking out the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City?
Wonder if they dressed in a similar fashion to any certain groups of people loitering around Itaewon. Keep your eyes peeled. |

there has been some types of "intelligence" about bok-han (n.korea)...
the best time to attack would be chusuk...
all the roads are conjested, everyone is scattered around the penn. leaving south korean defenses at it's weakest...
plus, there was some information about the lovely "yankee go home!" protests and some possible riots, combined with the massive amount of alcohol consumption over this weekend by koreans, the tops of usfk i guess deemed it would just be a good idea to create as few problems or incidents as possible during this time...
about soldiers being underpriveledged and having no other choice, that's definitely a stereotype.
i grew up in california where my mom has a masters degree in social work and runs her own business as a psycho therapist making over $120,000 a year and then lived in new york for a few years where my pops retired as an E-9 from the air force and is now a network administrator for a fairly large corporation...
it's more of a family tradition for men in my family to at least serve one stint in the military ever since we first immigrated from ireland... |

| I think the curfew is more because of Foundation Day than Chuseok. Chuseok just kind of provides nearly a whole week off before the Oct 3 Foundation Day. Idle hands + nationalism + "hey some GI has just been arrested for trying to rape a Korean male" = oh oh. |

Those others who posted jokes about this are welcome to hang around with them. I'm sure they'd love to make friends with a couple of infidel apologists.
By the way, they aren't just sticking in one place. They move in packs of 5 and 6 -- walking around aimlessly. They don't stop in the bars or go anywhere to eat. They carry duffle bags filled with gosh knows what. Could be a change of clothes, could be a knife, could be an infidel's head. Who knows?
The interesting thing is that they're out now... in large numbers... doing what they're doing.
I suggest people take precautions. Want to make jokes about what I'm saying? Fine. You've been warned.
