Alright, I actually haven't been outside of the airport yet (i'll add on to this in the upcomming days) but here are some of the things that caught my eye at Incheon International Airport:

1) Korean women are better than advertised! O.k., I have a girl back home, but oh my lord!

2) The Korean military personal walking around the airport are scary! I have read a lot of posts on this message board making fun of Korean men for being too feminem, but these guys are down right intimidating. I'm 6'3" 185 and I know for damn sure that several of these guys could kick the $hit out of me.

3) Why are there so many different kinds of telephones? And why does't the phone card I purchased at the convience store work for any of them?

4) The Korean's that I have talked to have been really friendly. The one's that I haven't all stare at me.

5) I exchanged $1000 Canadian into won and I feel like I robed a bank.

6) Did I mention the women Shocked (sorry neetu)

#3 was a problem for me for quite some time too, and then one day I bought one that worked and then another one... is it maybe because you don't take the card out? I think you have to do that... i can't remember how I solved the problem -- sure was frustrating though. Eventually you'll probably buy a cell phone -- of course it took me 2.5 years before I did.

Not a very popular thread but I will continue on anyways...

7) The Churches! On my drive from the airport to Ansan I saw an incredible amount of red crosses penitrating the night sky. It freaked me out.

Cool Smoking in the PC Bangs.....cough, cough, cough.

9) The Korean sample ladies at the supermarket swarmed me today. They fed me well, but I felt guilty not buying anything from them.

10) It's gonna take me a while to get used to this crazy money. I'm still not sure what's a deal and what's a ripoff.

11) Everybody's been nice, but I get the feeling sometimes that some Koreans are thinking "another damn foreigner" when I walk by them.

Korea is one crazy place but I like it so far.

I find it very impressive that someone goes to all the trouble to post here from the airport. You just got off the plane and ran to a PC room?

Be careful with all that money. Open a bank account soon.

This one really got me back when I first got here too. It was the machine guns. You don't see it much now, but back then, they all walked around with loaded machine guns. My first sight was 5 guys walking by with automatic rifles in fatiges. My first thought, when I got through customs was 'what the *beep* was I thinking?'

Ansan is nice starter town, you'll like it I think once you meet some people.

Yeah, the phones are ridiculous here. Just get a cell phone as soon as possible and you'll be set. You're gonna need it.

That's the truth, Ruth.

My first piece of advice to any newcomer (God, I hate the term newbie!) is to get a cellphone. Many who didn't have one in their home country come here thinking they'll just carry on doing without one. Wrong. It's a social pre-requisite here.

Yo, I appreciate the offer, but i'm only in Ansan for a couple of days (staying at my cousins) before heading to Mokdong. Thanks for the look out.

Anyways, I'm headed out to Seoul (Itaewon, Mokdong and a couple other places) on Tuesday, so i'm sure to add to this list. Can't wait!

You seem to know more about Korea than I did when I first arrived. At least you know different parts of Seoul and have contacts here.

Kinda scary the first time.
