My girlfriend and I are in Gangwon-do for Chuseok and we really like it here. We would like to know how many jobs there are here, what the salaries are like and how easy it is to get a job in this province. Any information on Samcheok, Sokcho, Donghae, Pyeongchang or any other city would be very helpful. We would probably be looking for jobs starting March or April. |

Salaries and benefits are all the same...this is a standard across Korea with little derivation. I have lived in Kangwon for 9 years and it is the best. Good luck getting something here...many people hold onto their positions and there aren't the abundance of jobs like in Seoul. Keep your ear to the ground and something is bound to come up.
Chad from FTUnion is pretty cool and knows Kangwon well.

Agreed, Gangwondo has its charms. What especially are you after? Next spring is a lot of lead time but a variety of positions are always coming up. A little more detail might prompt more specific responses. |

Ah, I passed up a decent job in Gangneung waiting for some public school gig that never materialized.
I do regret that. |

I passed on a good hagwon job in Gangneung, too. I don't really regret it, as my current gig is aces, but 20 mins to Yeongpyong was hard to pass up.... |

I live in Kanwondo, in Wonju, and it's not that great. The hagwon is pretty good for a hagwon. Good salary, 2.2, nice apartment, nice boss, but the city is really boring. So, my gf and I are leaving, which will open up 2 spots at the beginning of march. |

We are basically after some fresh air, access to the beaches and snowboarding (we are both from British Columbia and Gangwondo is about as close as Korea comes to home). Our contracts are up in December and we are going home for the boarding season. We want to come back at the end of March or beginning of April. We would like to make at least 2mil (I make more than that now). I just posted to see what kind of jobs were out there. We didn't see many forigners there. Everyone we met was also on vacation from another province. |

Yeah...it's no secret that Wonju is kinda lame. The only real benefit is that the big highways meet there, so it's easy to get around Korea. The geography around Wonju really flattens out too....makes it seem like a world away from Chuncheon. |

Yea, that's the only thing I like about it. |

Don't know if you've tried...you probably have, but just in case.
You can "post your resume" by following the link up top. It's not really a resume, but put in there that you're looking for something in coastal Gangwondo.
I did that last year, and though I did get a bunch of responses from other places as well, I did get interest from Donghae, Gangneung and Sokcho.
I regret not going up to Gangneung, but I am happy in the South Cheolla countryside. |
