Just really started to get the time to play this game. I know that it's been out for ages but I really just got a copy. I played the first one and the second one and was really good.
However, given this game I just can't beat it. Even on Regent level. Anyone got some good hints and tips?

1. Try to build a wonder like the pyramids or oracle as soon as possible.
2. Always build a temple or library in a new city to spread the cultural value.
3. Save before starting a war.
4. Sell goods to other nations by building roads to them but don't sell civ. advances unless you need the money.
5. Build barracks in a few cities and build your soldiers there. |

Been doing that... I think the problem was that I cut and paste my style from the first two onto the third...
I just seems that through the game my opponents get a lead on me... Not by much but enough to make my life a little difficult.
The thing that I hate is that there is no way to rush a wonder, like in the previous two. So, if one civilisation has got the tech advance first and you're a couple of turns away they get a head start.
That really blows me off. Oh... And resources. Why is it that my land always seems to be the most barren and useless piece of land. Why is it that the AI always gets the good shit and I've got to go and grovel to them? |

Re- Wonders. Check all your cities' build-times before beginning a Wonder- some are a lot faster than others and it's not always obvious which city can complete any given wonder the fastest. As your cities progress there are times when you're better off cancelling a wonder in one city and starting it in another.
There is, however, one surefire way to solve all your game problems in one fell swoop-
Stop playing that 3 year old game a get yourself a copy of ROME: TOTAL WAR

Bulsajo is right, but I say disregard the other poster's advice to build early wonders -- DON'T waste your time building early Wonders. You might be able to do it, but their utility is limited and you will have lost valuable settler-creating time. I do agree that building libraries is essential, both to spread culture (and resist conversion) and to gain civilization advances. If you can get a good enough lead early on, it's great to sell non-essential civilization advances and you can set yourself on top of a "pyramid scheme" that way and win the game 9 times out of 10.
Heh. I do wonder if our good friend Bulsajo has forgotten how difficult it is to get non-Koreanized versions of PC games out here. |

Yes, I have indeed, but I guess that's a big "GWANG!" for you poor folks.
Couldn't you order that sort of thing from Amazon, or do they still refuse to ship software to Asia?

P.S. I haven't actually bought ROME yet- I'm waiting for my Korean friend to put it on his FTP
In the meantime I'm making do with finishing up Call of Duty: United Offensive and The Suffering (which I'm finding scarier than Doom3). |

Call me nutty, but I prefer to buy licensed PC software.
And yes, Amazon still refuses to ship most PC software outside the U.S. Some eBayers will, but usually jack up the shipping cost. I really really wish the E.B. at Yongsan hadn't closed....hell, even the Burger King has left. |
