Just a little cynical (or maybe bitter) from past experiences. The school that screwed me over kept trying to push me into homestay, because it wouldn't cost them anything (in exchange for free tuition for the kids.) So yes, coupled with the lack of health insurance and pension, I see it as a sign of cutting corners.
The only reason they'd put you in homestay is because it's cheaper for them. It's not like there's a shortage of suitable housing in Bundang. |

| But of course...your apartment and my apartment don't really cost our directors anything either. |

Naw. It's cutting corners.
My old co-worker and I spent our first two months in Korean living with Grandma and it was hell listening to the open door bowel movements of a woman on the verge of crumbling to dust and having the television on at full volume at 7 a.m. every morning and getting yelled at for things (don't know what, just things).
Of course it did lead to one of the most memorable lines I've heard in Korean -- "careful going into the bathroom because Grandma shit on the floor." |
