After a visit to the doctor this last week and a diagnosis of fibrocystic breast syndrome (very early phases still; please don't worry/panic if you know her), the doctor suggested a list of things we could do to help out. One of those things is to avoid hormone-stimulated beef, pork, chicken . . .

Those of you who know us here also realize that we have been happily living a modified Atkins lifestyle for the past few years. And said lifestyle hinges upon said meat consumption (pretty much; we do get in a lot of poultry, dairy & lamb).

Besides the halal lamb vendors in Itaewon, does anyone here in/around Seoul know of a source for hormone-free meats? Cost isn't really an issue at all; I just want to see her happy & healthy.

In the meantime, we are switching C to more of a South Beach diet, but it is just not the same.

Regards,

Glen

ps ~ I have frequently been involved in the health/diet threads here; if you are a vegeterian/vegan with an agenda, PLEASE no flames - this is a specific issue/question, & we are looking for sincere responses. Thanx in advance for your courtesy. Smile

it's so funny that you should ask... just today my coworker, completely unprompted, gave me the website for an all-organic market that delivers:

http://www.orga.co.kr/orga_eng/index.asp

the selection is limited, and it's not cheap, but it's hormone-free and it'll come right to your front door Razz

good luck--my thoughts are with you for a clean bill of health.

Good luck on the hunt for organic stuff, and the well bing trend should make it easier to find. I think the milk is pretty heavily lade with hormones too, so watch out for that, and be well.

pm ~ we actually got some good advice from a host of people in our outside lives - we have a fair number of Korean doctor friends here, who have all been pretty helpful. Thanx for the 'well-wishes.' Wink

VI ~ ermmm, thanks for the crack at what I was trying to avoid (although, considering our dog is named 'Gae-go-gee,' I guess I can't complain overmuch). My religious convictions aside, it just wouldn't be a good idea in any case: 'properly' prepared boshintang requires beating the animal a lot before the actual butchering, with a twofold purpose: 1, to tenderize the meat, and (more importantly) 2, to cause a massive release of testosterone, 'infusing' the meat with it's purported medicinal value.

Testosterone, being a hormone, is what we are trying to avoid.

Regards,

Glen

In case your doctor didn't mention it, a good way to deal with fibrocystic breast syndrome is also to lay off the coffee. It really works.
