It seems like a crapshoot to sign a contract when you dont even get a chance to see the place that you'll be living in for a year.

Anyone know if its possible to move to a different apt if you're not happy with the one the school provides?

Im just trying to find out what my options are before signing a contract. Thanks

No.

They could just give you fake ones if they were dodgy anyway.

Best to see it for yourself hey.

Wouldnt that be a breach of the contract if they send you fake pics? And how would I see it in person before I signed the contract? I occasionally read about people getting 2 bedroom places for themselves, how would I manage to do that?

Ha ha ha. you sure are in for a shock.
Contracts are worth less than toilet paper here my friend. Its more about a persons word and they can(and will) manipulate the contract wording any way they can if the you get a bad director. Not saying it will happen but remember you are sitting over 6000 kilometres away.
This isn't the western world anymore.

Come here on your own dime and look around, you will definantly get a better idea of where you will work and live and if money is the issue, trust me over the course of 12 months if you land a good job, the initial outlay will more than pay itself back.

Most people that get these pads have connections and live here already and have done some time here.

Heck, I took photos of my old place before I moved out and gave the director the pics. He used them, too.

It's not unheard of.

Go ahead and ask for them.

Most places are fine....you are an English teacher at the school for one year. You will not be entertaining royalty. It is is not great, then so what. You are worrying about nothing.

before I came to Korea I got a video made by teachers working there.. showed the apartment, the school, a message from the director, and even scenes from the city... very helpful for me and my family.

Sometimes they wont rent a place until after you are hired so there ARE no pics. Sometimes. Don't expect a 2-bedroom for yourself. Expect a 0-bedroom bedsit type of thing.

Wrong to generalize.

Housing here can be hell.

Best to check it out any way you can.

You have been warned.

I have to agree with Derrek.
I would say about 1/3 of the time the housing is pretty bad.

Expect a what the call in Korean one-room which is sufficient. Its when they put you in one that is 20 years old in the basement and then try to make you share where the problems start.
