I am thinking of moving to Bundang, but am not all that familiar with the area. What is the difference between Jeongja-dong 1, 2 and 3? Are they all good areas? Is Samsung Plaza located in one of those areas? Does anyone know anything about Imae-dong? If you had to choose between any of the Jeongja-dong areas or Imae-dong, where would you go? Help!

Samsung Plaza is in Seohyun-dong.

It is hard to make a opinion but I would tell you that in Jeongja-1 dong, there are a lot of foreigners, but there is a lot of big new buildings going in across the river from us.

Really, all of Bundang is close to similar. It all depends on the apt.

I live in Imae-dong. It's a nice neighbourhood, but it is on the quiet side. Samsung Plaza is five-ten minutes away by bus. We've got a Carrefour, a Kim's Club, and a CGV (movie theatre) within walking distance.

If there's anything specific you want to know about the neighbourhood, feel free to ask me. I've lived here for a couple of years now.

Imae is a bit closer to Seohyun station (1 stop instead of 2), therefor closer to buses out to Seoul. That says something right there.

The Imae area is a little older -- but you're talking like 10 years I think. Everything around is pretty darned new in general until you are talking about Moran or something closer to Seoul. There are some older things in the Yatap area, I think too.

I think much of Jeongja is very new, and springing up new right now. So many empty new buildings in various stages of construction.

Imae is right between two good areas: Seohyun and Yatap.

depends what you want..
imae has its on Macdonalds.. where jeongja doesnt..
jeongja 2-3 dong are new areas.. and not much happening..
mieum and sunae are on each side of you so that helps..
If I had to chose and the rent was free.. I would go for a new officetel in jeongja dong.. imae is older of the bunch..

The black market is next to Yatap station, on the other side of the street from the Carrefour exit. Go out the subway exit for the Yatap post office. It's in the basement of the building with the Blue Moon bar.

I haven't been in a few months, but I've heard from other foreigners that he's still there. It's big enough to have refrigerators for frozen stuff, and he can order in anything you want.

Some of the neighborhoods tier back from the river, such as Jeongja. The subway runs pretty much parallel with the river through about half of Bundang (veers off after Yatap) and all of the 1-dong neighborhoods are just on the river. As you go to 2 and 3 dong, the river (and most of the important places) get farther and farther away.

I don't know much about Imae, but Jeongja 1-dong wouldn't seem like a bad place to be. There are actually buses running to Seoul from Sunae Plaza as well as Seohyun, so it's really easy to get to Seoul from here...too easy! As well, Sunae Station is actually almost on the border of Jeongja 1-dong, so if you live in the right area, the subway's not far off, and neither are buses to Seoul.

All Poon-Dang (I've gone retro on the name) is fairly similiar. It's all boring!!!!

The one thing I really liked about Bundang was the girls that walk around Samsung Plaza (Seohyeon).

And Yul-dong park is a cool area if you have a car.

For all you saying that some areas are "older" etc..

Bundang was a planned city. It was built from the ground up about 12 years ago. There is no "old" part of the city.

Granted there are areas that have more recent construction but the entire Tancheon river strip from Ori to Seohyeon is being heavily developed now.

Between Imae and Jeongja I'd choose Jeongja. Imae is almost entirely residential and you likely won't be anywhere close to the new subway stop unless the school is sticking you in a Korean apartment building (unlikely). Jeongja 1&2 dongs are very close to each other and essentially the same. 3 dong is a bit more remote and its a bit of a walk to anything except E-mart, which its right next to.

Hmmm...decisions, decisions...I guess my priorities are these:

1) A relatively new, modern and clean offictel

2) Close to the subway and buses into Seoul (let's say a 10 minute walk)

3) Restaurants and grocery shopping in the vicinity (no need for McD's or Bennigan's , but Thai, Vietnamese or Italian would be nice)

4) An area that is relatively clean (by Korean standards) and not resembling Itaewon (sorry Itaewonguy)

Pretty simple I guess. From the sounds of it, Jeongja is the way to go? What if I have the opportunity of living in Seohyun-dong?

Oh! Its not a priority, but a good DVD rental place nearby would be nice. I hear that there is a CGV Joycube somewhere in Bundang...where is that? Man, Korea NEEDS Blockbuster!
