The party will last a few months for him, then he'll hit a low.

For every "up" there is an equal "down."

Life has a funny way of balancing itself out, I've found.

You may then become sick of his complaining.

I'm suprised you are so bent out of shape because of the young fella.
He is obviuosly trying to make the best out of his experience and sounds like a great guy. I remember when I first came here, I was similar to him and i had this negative Kiwi girl tell me the terrible things about Korea and Koreans. I love Korean food and I could not belive how easy the job was compared to ther Jobs I had.
Yes, things have changed but you should just consider the kid as a breath of fresh air.

Listen "the eye," you think I'm "immature" because I criticised someone who wanted to see a "newbie" get hit by a bus for being new in town. THIS IS AN OFF DAY??????!!!!! DEATH WISHES?????/!!! Get a life. Where's the maturity in that???? I suspect that if he came to Korea pissed off about his situation already, Captain Kirk would be posting a thread about this doomed "newbie" who doesn't stand a chance?! Captain Kirk attacked this guy because people at his school like Adam better. Maybe this says something about the Captain himself. If his experience was so valued, maybe he would be treated with the respect he thinks he deserves. Isn't he naive? It seems to me that he has an unrealistic perception of himself, and that this was only made aware to him when it slapped him in the face in the form of a younger, less bitter, more eager and willing to learn individual. Do you honestly think that Korea should employ itself only with 40 year olds? I understand the value of all the "vets" experience but it is no reason to harp on somebody who is just starting out!!!! WE ALL START SOMEWHERE!!!!!! I myself plan on attending teachers college and am using Korea as a means to both gain experience and the funds to be able to attend such a college so that I'm not 40 complaining about some new dude stealing my thunder. In Ontario we call them Teachers Unions and they don't discriminate based on age etc., they value experience. Perhaps your in the wrong place my man? Don't fool yourselves people. There was a time when you too were new with no experience, and perhaps were the envy of your older coworkers. Youth isn't a curse but a blessing. Maybe you could teach him the ropes, and in turn possibly learn something from him. This is pathetic. Peppermint says Kirk is having an off day and should be able to rant? BS! Go rant and vent in a venue that doesn't insult people! Don't blame your problems on people other than yourself. Enough.

What the hell does that mean? If there is a battle between the old and the new than it is obviously complete BS. In every field of every job in every country there will always be younger people infiltrating the job market. It's a fact of life. Adjust, deal with it, whatever! Just don't blame the those trying to get a foothold.

Hey, calm down. all seems familiar, that's all -- not just your posts. I was involved in a very similar thread not long ago and from what I've seen there are thousands of threads that dissolve into the same stuff about whether or not people have a legit complaint. They all have something unique to them too, of course...

Honestly, I wasn't trying to touch a nerve.

Backing away to the door now, stepping outside and closing the door quietly behind me. Whew. Very Happy

no, you are immature for not seing the sarcasm in his post. since you teach english, do you know what 'sarcasm' means. if you did, you wouldn't act juvenile enought to storm off in a rant without understanding that the op was using humor.

when?? calm down, put down your spoonful of fruit loops and read again. your powers of observation are astonishing....look within, jordan, and see who the attacker is.

no, never even hinted at it. no one did. but if it helps you to make up things as you flame...more power to you.

Captain Kirk has put in good time here and is respected on this board. He was simply speaking of being confronted with his mortality. All of your percieved 'evil' innuendos are yours alone.

look at you reactions to the OP, and CASEY's MOON.... Shocked amateur! grow up, and maybe you will understand what this thread was REALLY about.

Maybe people shouldn't start such threads?

(p.s.) I love your subtle way of expressing disgust at the end of your post.

I was in the midst of posting the above while the eye was posting his response. I'm calm, its just tough to articulate that in words. Perception of language in the written sense doesn't connote maturity, just literacy. I read well. I know what sarcasm means but perhaps Kirk could have made his sarcasm more apparent rather than arousing such debate. Pure sarcasm needs no explanation to the educated. I can't wait till I've been deemed to have "put my time in" here so that I can insult my new coworkers under the guise of making a legitimate complaint. Everybody has or will have a mid-life crisis, its how you deal with it.

There is no need to attack Capt Kirk here. He is just making observations. How the newcomer percieves everything since they are blissfully unaware of any trying experiences. How thier infectious enthusiasm stimulates their Korean co-workers and the boss.

I think that perhaps his 'tongue in cheek' method of posting may have been a little too subtle for others.

Does he actually wish harm to the guy? I dont think so! The bus could be a metaphor for the awakening that will eventually hit this guy....and he wont even see it coming.

When you are new to an area you notice anything different from home. The less traveled you are the more new things there are to notice. I give him about 4-6 months before his enthusiasm burns out and monotony kicks in.

Oh I've been accused of 'flaming'. As far as I know thats what BK does with its burgers. I call it MY OPINION. Yes Kirk is being sarcastic, but its still what he truly feels isn't it?

I completely agree Grotto which is why I suggested in an earlier entry of mine on this thread that the "honeymoon" period may well end. I just think that there are less offending metaphors to express such. I don't know Kirk and I refuse to judge or assess him on anything other than that which he posted, heck even then its a stretch, I really don't care. It just struck a chord with me as I literally could be that Adam dude. Like I said earlier in this thread, I'm 24, fresh out of Uni, eager, and (I swear I'm not bragging but my past girlfriends and other ladies have said) relatively good looking. This guy Kirk is who I fear. An unwarranted speed bump. I hope you all can understand. If I end up sucking or being the embodiment of crappy teaching then let me express that myself. Give us newbies that chance. Don't write us off and/or hate us because we haven't been in the game long enough. Why do you think I come on this board all the time. Because I want to hear the opinions of people who have never been to Korea before? F*** no! I come here to learn from guys like Captain Kirk who have been around. It is just a little disheartening to hear such words. Sorry for inflaming the situation, but jeez.....

KJJ....
did you see all of the little 'smiley faces' on the OP????
what does that tell you?

it's difficult to articulate calmness in a post, you say???.... Shocked lets see, maybe it was your name calling, exces punctuation, capitalization?

good one! either way, you just sunk yourself.

i'd be interested to witness your attitude in few years time too. look at how judgemental you are already. the OP is not putting the blame on anyone...just making observations on a situation.
No one 'hates' you or 'writes you off'.... that is your judgement.

How does an emoticon effectively articulate ones words? I prefer to express myself with the English language, not some cute symbol/picture. The reason I used "excess" punctuation and such was to avoid leaving any confusion as to where I stood in the form of a "cleverly" placed emoticon. I assume adults venture this forum, and in the case of one severely critisizing a person I don't really know else to respond. How did I sink myself with that maturity bit? I'm sure that nobody hates me or writes me off, and I'm not being judgemental, I'm just responding to the comments made by the OP. Sarcastic or not, they were harsh and that is indisputable. I would not only love you to bear witness to my attitude in a few years but I would also LOVE you to do such over a beer or 12. I'm that kind of guy (when it is appropriate). I don't want to engage myself in an extended argument about this with you because I honestly don't care. I'll pave my own way. I really just want to make friends and have a good time, and possibly a lively discussion. Lets end this here.
