yes, currently working on my first novel...a historical romance book, set in Regency England.

The research took a while, now getting motivated to work on it diligently is taking even longer...

I've written some stuff, but I'm working under the Balzac doctrine that "one must write volumes and volumes before ever signing one's name to one's work".

I wrote a 280-page self-biographical NOVEL.. (not fiction - although it is self-biographical). Sent it to the Library of Congress for copyright protection.. and tried like hell to get a potential publisher to look at it. No one did.

It sits in a storage locker I keep in my parent��s back bedroom closet.

Writing is the easy part.. getting a potential publisher to look at it (when you have never had anything published before) is in impossible feat.

I'm writing a novel, but it doesn't take place in Korea and has virtually nothing to do with Korea. I think that's the safest way to do it. So far, writing a book has been the hardest part of my life in Korea. Actually, that, and keeping a girlfriend for more than a week.

I don't believe you can write anything worthwhile until you are of a certain age and experience. I have a book where I write stuff occasionally. Looking back at the stuff i wrote even 3 years ago, it seems pretty immature/ill thought out. I think, about "38" is a good time to write, when you have a full, proper perspective on your life.

Bah! If the masses decide what's a good book, then no wonder The Bible is still a best-seller and King, Grisham, and Shakespeare can lick my bum.

I wish the poll had "wrote one already, working on another" as a choice but I suppose since I wrote before I was 25 (I'm 26 now), then it must be garbage, eh? Saying there's an age limit to writing is like saying there should be an intelligence limit for rock music... Or that the masses actually recognize good art when they see it.

Didn't James Joyce write The Dubliners during his school-days? And acclaimed before he was 30?

This is a silly discussion... but my 2 cents is as good as any others.

As a sidenote, good authors - those recognized as "classics" - often die before their work is recognized: Tolkien, Milton, D!ckinson (why the *beep* won't the word filter allow that name?)...

I think, however 'underground' the author might claim to be, there's a little spot in his heart hoping that his creation will be read by more than friends and family. And yes, this is a stupid discussion.
