damn thats a weird story.
I would like to hear some more details..
so you were right by the emart which was 30 minutes from the uni, correct?
so you were having a great conversation there.. now the ride back to the uni was another 30minutes.. so you were both just sitting there? not saying anything>?
you never once told him where are you going?? what are you doing?
emart is there?? stop the car!!
why didnt you just grab the stearing wheel pull up the park brake.. force the car to the side of the road??
IM sure from your uni to the emart is was not a highway all the way there
must of just been a normal road...
what happend in the car after the u turn????
what was said! what was done? |

| A female coworker was going to Vancouver to study english. I was the one Canadian she knew and of course I'm very, very, very nice. I had to warn her not to generalize from there. There are a lot of nice Canadians but there are a lot of freaks who cruise for asian women waiting on bus stops. No matter how nice a Canadian seems, don't get in his car if he offers you a ride. |

yeah interesting story. Im curious as well.. did you say 'let me out of this freakin car'!?
As for one of the posters. Ive heard that you should take the first opportunity that comes to you to get away from this kind of a situation.. or else you may not have another chance. Its either hope he doesnt have gun or something when you bail or stick it out till the end. Hrm.. |

| Man, that reminds me of something stupid I did when I was in college. I spent the night at my girlfriend's home in Lacombe, which is about a 90 minute drive up Highway 2 from Calgary. Monday morning, I'm driving into Calgary to get to school. On the drive down, there's this hitchhiker on the side of the road. I slow down and pick him up. He's wanting to get onto the Trans-Canada heading towards Banff. I told him that I lived in Calgary but I could drop him off on the west end of the city. As we're driving along, I realized that I needed to get some stuff from home. I asked him if he was hungry, which he said he was. So, I drive home, invite him up to my place (I lived with my parents at the time and they would not have been happy), gave him a sandwich for lunch (no, I didn't give him any kimchi to go with it), dropped him off at the city perimeter and head off to school. My girlfriend thought I was insane and it didn't dawn on me, until then, what could have happened. |

I'm with everyone else on this one...why didn't you speak up? if memory serves you are male right? why did you just sit there with your thumb up your ass playing the victim?

As I have advocated before on this topic...carry mace and/or a baseball bat at all times! |

| Opening your door into a lane of traffic is a great way to get the guy to stop! Just shove it open and lean back into the car. The driver that hit your door will be SURE to get the license number!! |

Given he lived to tell the tale, he seems to have at least done something right. It might have been smarter to stay quiet and wait for a chance to bolt. Suddenly turning hostile on the guy might not have had the desired effect.
"Oh no I'm kidnapping a foreigner with a sure pretty mouth to have homosexual gay sex with him against his will and make him squeal like a ! Oh the shame this will bring on me, my family, and my chaebol! I have no choice but to drive my KIA into the Han river..." |

We are all quick to jump the conclusions and flame others for not "siding with me." I posted..."let's hear the driver's version." Simple enough statement. Always, always two sides to every story. We only heard your side and we'll never hear the driver's side.
Could have been a misunderstanding on his part...or yours....who knows?
Yes...it's always best to use common sense when getting a ride from strangers. And yes you are lucky considering what could or might have happened. Common sense tells me to never do it. However. ....Your common sense does not..... seeing how you got into the car.
Once you found yourself in this situation...you should have taken control of the situation quickly. He is driving and can't control you and the car at the same time! Wack him upside his head. HARD! So what if he crashes the car after you hit him! Look at the possible alternative! And when you wack someone...don't be a nice guy about it! Send them into the next century! |

huh? my question was, why didn't he speak up? The chances are pretty damn good that the kidnapper wasn't packing a gun (we are in korea after all kids) and i dunno about you but jumping out of a car and sprinting through traffic isn't necessarily what I would label "doing something right."
How about:
1. Tell the guy that he drove past my desired destination (nicely of course)
2. More assertively TELL the man to stop the car
3. Begin intimidation techniques and make the guy well aware that his attempt to foreceably take me somewhere against my will will result in VERY bad things for him.
4. Watch him shit his pants when he sees 220lbs of Sparkx coming at him right between the eyes with the intent to maim.
Guaranteed, it would never get to number 4 but what if the OP never had the opportunity to jump out of the vehicle? Maybe there was a group of 20 korean guys waiting in an abandoned parking lot somewhere in the outskirts of Bundang...
NEVER allow yourself to be a victim...they say with any kidnapping attempt, your best chance of survival is when an escape attempt is made within the first 10 minutes of being accosted. |

Maybe you got to the E mart didnt say anything then he got pissed off thinking you meant the other Emart and started driving you there then you jumped out and he just went home going babo waygukin
I have hitchhiked across Canada and the USA and never had any problems with sickos. Alot of the stuff printed in the media is a remote case not a rule of thumb. |

| 7. I am a very weak person because of a medical problem. For example before I came to Korea I helped a female friend who was old enough to be my grandmother rearrange her furniture. She was stronger than me. |
Fair enough...you obviously did what you had to do and luckily didn't get injured in the process.
Sorry for any comments that may have been hurtful... |

| Well done for getting out of there unharmed- hope you don't get too freaked out about what must have been a very unnerving experience. |
