Let me expand on my earlier answer.
I have some students who study hard and study a lot because they want to get As.
I have some students (remarkably few this semester) who do nearly nothing because a pass is good enough and it's very difficult ot fail. |

I have heard that it's anything but a free ride for foreigners studying in Korean universities. the exceptions of course would be Yonsei and the one or two others offering special graduate programs for foreigeners and Koreans.
Many Korean universities blatantly discriminate agianst foreigeners pursuing higher degrees, to the point where they fail them for petty reasons other than the quality of their work.
Japan I have heard is the same. Rumour has it that many of the Korean Professors at Korean universities who studied in Japan have countless horror stories of what they had to go through. |

Had the same situation, more than once I should add. |

Read my whole post:
"Granted some do study"
Let me guess...either they are Christian or at a top University. Nobody fails University here...do you think that is normal?? If they are such a supergenius country where everyone who enters Univ. graduates, shouldn't they be on the verge of world dominance?? |
Calm down chap....
I did read your whole post..You say 'some study', it just seems odd that every student i know seems to be in the minority that do study a lot.
Not especially Christian, and from several different universities..
I didnt say anything about this country being supergenious  just that the uni students do a lot of work....They do far more work than british students for example.
Im sure a lot of students do get through regardless of their study patterns but from what ive seen, uni students here do a lot of study...The question is obviously whether they need to or not. |

Parents were upset to hear television reports that said most high school students in this country receive an A grade. Most high schools gave A's to students, regardless of their ability, to help them gain admission to universities. Because of this common practice, some universities ignored high school records when selecting prospective students and applied self-administered criteria, going against policies laid down by the Ministry of Education. Parents who had not been aware of this fact were surprised to learn about it through television news reports.

it's our job to teach English, period. That's what i do (with every iota of creativity i can muster).
if they don't learn (5-10%), i can rest assured it's not my fault. |
