Now I guess I'm glad that I had to get my lock changed on my apartment. The battery ran out and I left the key inside. Had to shell out 40,000 won to get a replacement, as they couldn't pick the thing. Nobody's getting in my door. |
I also got one of those locks with a burglar alarm. I'm not sure if it will do any good, though. The neighbours' alarms go off so often (their kids still can't figure out how open the door properly) that people don't pay any attention to them anymore (not that they would anyway). |

coulter you dont happen to work at YES do you?
I used the locksmith that installed the locks for several of the teachers at that hagwon.
i think its the kids from the local highschool or middle school. locksmith and some korean friends think it couple possibly be an inside job someone that would know the locations of esl teachers. ( I was the only one hit, my friend downstairs got hit about 5 months ago)
no passport or id's were taken, but my change bin and emergency cash were taken, about 100,000 all together. they didnt bother with my laptop cause i had it locked.
Derrek, sorry i cant get a pic up but i could try and describe it.
It's got a handle about 5 inches long, a simple twist to lock it from inside.
Locksmith said its because we live in a 1 room joo-tek. Less of a chance if you live in the bigger villa's and apts due to security gurads. |
I work at YES. I don't think it was an inside job, but I am not sure.
Interesting. Did the guy think it was an inside job? |

No, I don't work at YES but the others who were robbed in my building do. I thought it might be an inside job in my school, until I found out about the other robberies (that all happened the same day) the following Monday. The hood is full of YES people!!!!
My new lock is pretty fancy compared to the other one, so hopefully it wont happen again.
Sorry I got my dongs mixed up |

Anyone who had their place broken into, please PM me.
I have a reporter-friend with KBS who said they might be interested in the story, and would possibly like some contact names.
If you would be willing to talk to the media, please PM me! |

Since it happened just before Chuseok, I figured it was a Korean trying to make some quick coin for the holiday, but anything is possible... |

not likely. where would he fence the stuff? would he or she have a contact? not really likely, but possible. I know it is not any of my crew. |

Have there been any repeat break-ins (like after the locks have been changed)?? I'm still paranoid! |

It wouldn't be any problem at all for a foreigner to fence stuff in Korea. Itaewon for a start. Second hand stores in Seoul. But, a foreigner breaking in would be more obvious than a korean wearing a gas uniform or something. |

No break-ins since the locks have been changed. If there are anyone else, let me know. |
