In a rare show, I''' disagree with KD by upping the ante: a REALLY good school would have automatic payments set up for their foreign teachers (in my experience, the Korean staff are almost always paid in cash, in person), AND let their banker know to bump up payments on weekends/holidays.
My first school (Ch'ang-won; there 4 years) always paid the full amount, on time, in cash, BEFORE a weekend or long holiday - besides the regular holiday bonuses. Plenty of times I floated newbies or teachers with directors who pulled a duck & cover.
I consider it a courtesy, in any case - if not a common one extended here. If you want it, write it into your contract/discuss it with your supervisor, esp. if you are looking towards re-signing.
To be fair, I have also known teachers who consistently asked for advances on their salary, month after month, because they couldn't budget/save worth a flying fig . . .
Regards,
G. |

I understand your point, but I am not sure this is possible with internet banking. The employer just goes to the bank website and makes the plan to transfer x won to x account on x day. If the day falls on the weekend, it is probably executed on the following business day. |

| My pay day is on the 4th. Everyones pay day is different depending when they started. If the 4th is on a friday I would not accept payment cause banks are closed on Saturday and I dont want all that cash in the house. Mondays the boss is generally too busy to go to the bank, and I never push it, so Tuesdays is fine with me. But on the upside, if anyone ever needs an advance they can get it. I never ever had trouble at any job I have worked at getting paid. But then again, I am nevre short, so I don't have to gt the money on the 4th. An extra few days never wi bother me. |

I don't think so (just based on my experience). Every university and larger business I know has an automatic deposit on the closest business day before a holiday. Credit card, water, electicity bills, etc., are automatically taken out (it you have that set up) the first business day after a holiday. |

| I don't understand why so many people are still being paid in cash. A bank transfer is so much faster and safer. |

| At the two crap schools I worked at, I got paid after the weekend. (Directors claimed it was "Korean style.") With my new (much better) school, I get paid before. |

| If you don't have enough money on Friday to get through the weekend then perhaps you are drinking too much. |

| Perhaps you shouldn't assume that everyone is drinking their money away. Some of us have families. Three people = more money spent. |
