The Hong Kong Government is recruiting native English speakers with decent qualifications to teach in primary schools through the NETs Scheme. Good pay and support.
Most likely you will be the only native English teacher in the school there
though , the staff can speak at least suvival English. And there is not likely harassment and discrimination to �ܱ��� in the society. The government, when doing the selection is based on qualification and experience only. Looking Caucasian or mixed is never a consideration. So, those who want a new experience please apply.
However, the worst thing in Hong Kong when compare to Korea and Japan is that, the girls there do not have special favor over foreign men. It is more difficult to get a romantic encounter with the girls there, though they know the language. So, in my opinion, the opening is more suitable to single lady and married couple.

uh fyi: (ii) A recognized teacher training qualification means a B.Ed or a PGCE
Trust me on this one - I have many friends working in the NET scheme!
And another thing; Hong Kong is a white man's playground. There are tons of Chinese women who are souly interested in white guys here...
Just wanted to clarify.

| I've been looking into jobs there for the past 2 weeks and most jobs that I have seen require, as Jasmine says, a BEd or equivalent. Most of us here aren't qualified. (Yes, some are). |

The teachers in the schools speak a lot better than survival English. Many of them took degrees overseas (and not just the English teachers). I haven't met one native Hong Kong English teacher who spoke English poorly (though some are better than others)...that is in the secondary program...the primary program may be different.
I worked for six years in the NET program and have just recently moved to Incheon. |

I call total and utter BS on this one. Maybe you are a recruiter, and maybe there is a demand for femal teachers or couples, but please don't lie to us. I've from more than one person that quite the opposite is true. |

Could you give us a little comparative run down? And also why did you decide to pack it in and come to Korea? |

Certainly writes English like a recruiter and is obviously trying to discourage a certain type. |

kiwiboy...there is no comparison between being on the NET program and its equivalent the EPIK program here in Korea...
The starting salary is around 30K HK (about 5K Can)...with experience you go up the ladder just like an HK teacher...I was making 43K at the end or about 7K Canadian a month (used to be more but the exchange changed a lot)...not counting the privates I did...15% bonus at the end of contracts...I know single teachers with experience who saved 250K can in four years...just on their salaries...
90 days holiday a year....schools pay for trips home at the end of your contract..(includes family members)
The problem with the NET program is that it is hard to get on....they get a lot of applicants and can afford to be choosy...
I came to Korea because of love...my wife is from Incheon and she wanted to come back to be close to her parents who are getting on in years...and we wanted our kids to go to school here (primary only)...
As for girls...local girls are not against dating ex-pats...and the filipino female population is more than willing to pick up the slack...getting "action" in hk is like (according to one friend who visited me in HK) shooting fish in a barrel...a very small barrel.... |

| Cool, but I heard horrendous stories of really treatment of the teachers in that program, with lots of getting jerked around and stuff. |

Quite possibly...
For someone genuinely interested in teaching, rather than someone preoccupied with what kind of "girls" he can have a "romantic encounter" with.  |

How easy it would it be if I have a Bachelor of Education, a TESOL certifcate and 4+ years experience teaching ESL to all levels?
I ask because I am giving some serious thought to locating to Hong Kong. |

From what I've been reading it sounds like you would have no problem unless they were sticklers about the levels you have been teaching. I certainly would expect that, from what you wrote, you would have no problem getting on as a Primary NET anyway. |

| I can't get the site where you're supposed to download the application form to work. I want to know what exactly they consider to be recognized qualifications. Investing a year into getting the qualifications sounds like it's worth it for this. |
