				| He paid me less than I expected to get for this--my last week--of work, and said it was because instead of dividing 2 million by 22 (or 23) days of work in a month, he divided 2 million by 30 days, and according to him that's the proper way to do it. | |

Did he succeed in saving money?

On what day (or date) did you start working?
Does he owe you a full month's pay?

				| No, he only owed me a week of pay. I worked a month (which I was paid properly for) and an extra week. I assumed he would pay me 1/4 of a month's salary because I worked 1/4 of a month. Call me crazy... | |

On a salary of 2M a month, the numbers would be:

 2M / 31 * 7 = 451,613
 2M / 21 * 5 = 476,190
 2M / 22 * 5 = 454,545
 2M / 23 * 5 = 434,783

Due to October having 31 days, there is no way to have a 20 working day month.

If your last day of regular pay was to have been the 8th (Friday), that would mean 21 working days would fall between October 9th and the 8th of November. You salary would be 476,190 when using the 5/21 system you wish to use.

If the 9th (Saturday) was your last day, that makes 22 working days between the 10th of October and November 9th, thus a salary of 454,545.

But if the last day of the pay period was October 11th (Sunday), then your would have 23 working days between now and November 10th, under your system of 5/23 your salary would be 434,783.

 This was funny.

I had boss calculate pay this way too once. He got to save money and save him self the trouble of having to do the math of figuring out how many working days are in a month.

Thanks, you got a little too technical there for me (I flunked math multiple times), but as long as you're agreeing that I should have gotten paid more than I did...

				| By his math you would have gained about 20,000 or lost about 20,000 depending on whether 22 or 23 days was used.
 We're talking petty sums here.

Let's not be petty. Don't sweat the little things.

Otherwise you'll become a bitter malcontent with a penchant for ridicule and condescension.

And none of us want that, do we?

				| Umm...I'm not following that, VI. By my reckoning, since I am getting paid 2.1 million per month, I am getting paid for each day of work, not for the weekends. Yes I realize it's a salary job but I am getting paid for going to work, not for sitting at home. Therefore the 2.1 million should be divided by however many workdays there are in a month. If there are 21 days, then I should get 100,000 per workday, should I not? Thus I should make around 500,000 (or a little less) for five days of work, should I not?
I don't care about the way the boss does the math if he is doing it the wrong way, KWIM?

The odds that you should have been given more money are the same as the odds you should have been given less money. What day was your normal salary day?

				| The 10th.
Whoever commented about petty sums was right--I don't care if it's a matter of twenty bucks, but one hundred thousand won is a fairly significant amount of money to me, and if I'm owed that much, I want it to be paid, KWIM?
