Prostitution has been illegal for a long time. It's just that the police have decided to enforce the law. Much like they tried to do with the traffic violators 6 months back. In 6 months they will go after something else.

Maybe all the credit card defaultors??

Is this the same guy from the other thread about the guy who ordered a hooker to come to his dorm room (more than once) on the university campus where he worked? Of course he got fired for that. I could understand if he just got busted at a brothel, but bringing hookers into the dorm? I mean, come on.

Possibly the crackdown is like a quota that has to be met, and some officer found it more palatable to call a foreigner on it, given the opportunity.

I believe that sort of thing happens, but in this case, it "happened" to be a foreigner.

The Korean speakers on this board said, in either this post or another, that outrage at the University over finding that the hooker had gone to see some student (or someone) led the police to investigate and learn it was the foreigner.

So they say.
