Totally not true. No MA for me and I make more money than at my former hogwon and work less.
Midterm exams are starting on Thursday. Trying to get off from Thursday - Tuesday. That would never happen at a hagwon. |

Adventureman-You seem to have a rough opinion of public gigs, no doubt as a result of your experiences...That's too bad. However, just because YOUR public school gig was crappy, dont dump on everyones. Just like Hagwons, there is a mix of good and bad out there.
Is it the most rewarding job? No, probably not always. But I do enjoy teaching these classes more than hagwons. And there are lots of perks with the good jobs out there that make it especially rewarding.
You dont like or recommend Public school jobs, and that is fine. But don't reduce it to an equation where anyone who does is a reject or a loser. |

Another approach might be direct emailing the provincial supervisors of the epik program. People have gotten on at all odd times of year in my province because national recruitment couldnt provide enough teachers, or someone didnt work out.
A short simple inquiry (their english may not be so good) might bear fruit. Heres a link to their addresses: http://epik.knue.ac.kr/commission.htm |
My first contract with EPIK was through the normal process - I applied direct to EPIK. My second contract I got by 'cold calling' all the provincial offices. I sent emails to them with a brief outline of my qualifications and experience. Only two replied. One said "Thanks but no thanks" but the other offered me a job.
So, applying direct to the provincial offices worked for me. It may also work for you. |

CanadaCommando ......... congratualtions on a polite restrained response to Adventureman's posting. I also teach in a public school and I agree totally with your comments. |

I'm working in a public elementary school and I'm loving it so far(2 months down) GEPIK(covering Gyonggi Do)At the beginning of September, GEPIK took on 100 teachers and I know of one for sure who has gone home and there many be more(this one left die to personal reasons) My point is that there may well be soem GEPIK jobs about just now.
Now that I think about it, I saw some elementary jobs advertised for Seoul(English Spectrum maybe?) So basically you can get public school jobs now. I'd encourage anyone to go for it on the basis of my experience so far. |
